In a meeting of the town&#8217;s governing body, officials passed a resolution declaring the water emergency on June 25. According to the resolution, the town&#8217;s governing body found the town is experiencing challenges that affect the water supply including challenges to maintain sufficient water reserves and pressure for drinking water and fire protection capabilities. The resolution also states that the town determined that continued operation under current conditions presents a risk of water shortages, service interruptions, inadequate fire suppression, and other threats to public safety. The emergency declaration gives the Estancia mayor, town clerk, public works supervisor and other officials authority to implement the following emergency measures:Mandatory water conservation restrictionsImplement restrictions on non-essential water useEmergency procurement of equipment, materials, engineering services, and contractorsImplement emergency repairs and infrastructure improvementsCoordinate with state agencies Any additional actions to protect the public water supply.
