(WITN) &#8211; Officials with the Kinston Police Department are speaking about a bear being spotted in the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">After concerns were raised by residents, Kinston Police acknowledged the black bear sighting on social media. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Kinston Police Chief Keith Goyette tells WITN the bear was last seen near the 900 block of Fairfield Avenue around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Chief Goyette says that the bear was spotted at West Washington Avenue early Saturday afternoon &#8211; adding that the bear was \u201con the move.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officials are asking residents to give the bear plenty of space. Officials go on to say not to approach, feed, or stop to take pictures with the bear.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Kinston officials add that black bears are usually just passing through, and that once it gets dark, it will likely head back toward its natural habitat on its own.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Kinston Police say this will help keep the community and the bear safe. <\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WITN.
