Thousands of pedestrians, bicyclists, skaters and others are expected to take over a 3.6-mile stretch of streets between Leimert Park and Exposition Park Sunday as CicLAvia returns with another car-free open streets event.<\/p>\n
It is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday along Crenshaw and Martin Luther King Jr. boulevards. Participants can walk, bike, jog, skate or use other people-powered transportation along the route, according to organizers.<\/p>\n
A news conference was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. at the Leimert Park Hub near the Leimert Park Metro Station.<\/p>\n
Scheduled speakers include Mayor Karen Bass, City Councilmembers Heather Hutt and Curren Price, Metro CEO Yesenia Arias, CicLAvia Executive Director Romel Pascual and CicLAvia board member Kellie Hawkins.<\/p>\n
A performance by LA Carnival on the Shaw was also planned.<\/p>\n
The route will connect Leimert Park and Exposition Park through three activity hubs, organizers said. They are located in Leimert Park, King Estates and Exposition Park.<\/p>\n
Each hub will offer family-friendly activities, restrooms, free water refill stations, basic bicycle repairs, bicycle parking, first aid and information booths. Free pedicab rides also will be available.<\/p>\n
Community organizations will host additional activities throughout the day, including World Cup-themed pop-up events at the Leimert Park hub.<\/p>\n
Organizers said participants may enter or leave the route at any point and are encouraged to explore neighborhoods, businesses and cultural attractions along the way.<\/p>\n
CicLAvia, a nonprofit organization, has hosted 65 previous open streets events across Los Angeles.
