{"id":899927,"date":"2026-06-29T03:25:27","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T03:25:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/899927\/"},"modified":"2026-06-29T03:25:27","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T03:25:27","slug":"nypd-commish-stands-with-armed-gay-cops-on-sidelines-of-nyc-pride-march-after-slamming-organizers-for-barring-them","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/899927\/","title":{"rendered":"NYPD commish stands with armed gay cops on sidelines of NYC Pride March after slamming organizers for barring them"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch was pictured watching the NYC Pride March from the sidelines Sunday, weeks after<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/07\/us-news\/nypd-commish-walks-with-armed-gay-cops-in-queens-pride-parade-rips-manhattan-organizers-for-barring-them-slap-in-the-face\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> slamming the exclusion of LGBTQ cops <\/a>from walking in full uniform in the parade.<\/p>\n<p>About 75,000 people walked in the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/28\/us-news\/sen-chuck-schumer-mercilessly-booed-at-nyc-pride-parade\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">57th annual Pride March Sunday afternoon<\/a>, making their way down Fifth Avenue, turning onto Eighth Street and then up Seventh Avenue, where they passed the historic Stonewall Inn \u2014 the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2019\/06\/21\/stonewall-50-a-look-at-the-history-and-future-of-the-riots-that-changed-the-world\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">site of the violent 1969 police raid and uprising<\/a> that kick-started the gay rights movement and inspired the march.<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/27\/us-news\/tisch-slams-exclusion-of-gay-cops-in-uniform-at-nyc-pride-march\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">uniformed NYPD officers haven\u2019t been among the marchers<\/a> since 2021, when NYC Pride organizers Heritage of Pride first banned all active-duty law enforcement from marching with their service weapons \u2013citing tensions between law enforcement and the LGBTQ community in the wake of the George Floyd protests.<\/p>\n<p>Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stands with gay NYPD officers at the Pride March in Manhattan on June 28, 2026. Matthew McDermott for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>As NYPD regulations require uniformed officers to be armed, members of the Gay Officers Action League opted to skip marching ever since.<\/p>\n<p>At this year\u2019s parade, New York City\u2019s top cop was spotted watching behind metal barricades alongside a group of officers protesting the ban on cops marching in their uniform.<\/p>\n<p>Police pictured behind Tisch held signs reading \u201cGay cops will not be erased from Pride,\u201d and \u201cPride March: Admit One,\u201d along with an NYPD badge.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Tisch slammed the exclusion of LGBTQ cops from walking with their guns during Manhattan\u2019s Pride March and instead walked in a Pride parade through Queens that allowed armed officers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce again, they banned NYPD officers from marching in full uniform later this month,\u201d Tisch said of the Manhattan organizers during the June 7 Queens march.<\/p>\n<p>NYPD officers in front of the barricades at the Pride March. They can no longer march in Pride, so these folks have taken time out of their celebration to hold space for the people that we lost. It\u2019s\u00a0on people\u2019s minds constantly,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Gays Against Gun marchers dressed all in white with shawls covering their faces and held photographs of the 49 Pulse victims, while also holding a photograph of anti-ICE protester Renee Good, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/08\/us-news\/renee-nicole-good-was-minneapolis-ice-watch-warrior-who-trained-to-resist-feds-before-shooting\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">who was killed earlier this year by law enforcement in Minneapolis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Some notable figures who marched in the parade include Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Gov. Kathy Hochul, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/28\/us-news\/sen-chuck-schumer-mercilessly-booed-at-nyc-pride-parade\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sen. Chuck Schumer<\/a>, New York Attorney General Letitia James, Congressional candidate Brad Lander and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams \u2014 with the latter two posed for a photo with Tisch.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Zohran Mamdani marches in the Pride parade. Michael Nagle for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Celebrities like Bowen Yang, a grand marshal, and Megan Stalter were also spotted in the sea of participants. <\/p>\n<p>The 2026 theme \u201cFor All of Us\u201d was taken from a quote widely attributed to Stonewall veteran and historic LGBTQ activist Marsha P.
