With just over a quarter century of discography logged, Silverstein vocalist Shane Told has found himself doing a fair share of reflecting on the Canadian post-hardcore outfit\u2019s history while plotting its next phase.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you get to this point, you really do think about the longevity and you think about your legacy,\u201d Told said. \u201cI think the legacy is important, and I think, you know, the fact that we do everything to a high standard is important.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe pride ourselves that we made pretty good decisions throughout our career and that we made a lot of good songs and not too many bad ones.\u201d<\/p>\n
Because of this, Told admits that Silverstein has faced a champagne problem when curating its set list for its upcoming co-headlining jaunt alongside Story Of The Year, which will stop at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe July 28.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we toured last year, we were doing kind of an all-encompassing \u201c25 years of Noise\u201d tour where we were doing this really just elaborate show that started with our newest songs and we did our entire set in reverse chronological order,\u201d Told explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n
For this tour, Told admits he is still mulling over which songs to slot in each night.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t really know what to play, like, should we play more older stuff? Should we do what we\u2019ve been doing the whole time?,\u201d Told pondered. \u201cIt\u2019s something we constantly think about and it\u2019s something that does not get easier, as we get longer in the tooth with having so many songs.\u201d<\/p>\n
While fans can certainly expect to hear hits like \u201cSmile In Your Sleep,\u201d \u201cMy Heroine\u201d and \u201cSmashed Into Pieces,\u201d Told is mostly concerned with slipping in some deep cuts from the band\u2019s expansive discography.<\/p>\n
One thing that we do enjoy is bringing back some stuff we haven\u2019t played in a while so that you know the people that do come see us and see us again and again and again, are excited that they get to hear some stuff that they didn\u2019t hear last time. That\u2019s important to me,\u201d said Told.<\/p>\n
Adding to the mix of Silverstein tunes will also be tunes from the band\u2019s most recent works \u201cAntibloom\u201d and \u201cPink Moon.\u201d<\/p>\n
Told expressed interest in slotting in songs like \u201cMercy Mercy,\u201d \u201cStress\u201d and \u201cI Love You But I Have To Let You Go\u201d into the show, but he still wants to keep an element of surprise each night.<\/p>\n
So whether fans show up to hear classics, deep cuts or rock out to new tracks, Told aims to provide the same experience for each section of the audience.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a high-energy show and it\u2019s fun, too,\u201d he said. \u201cYou can bring a friend, bring a date or go by yourself. I think either way you want to slice it, you can find something in there, if you want to rock out, if you want to get a little emo, if you want to, you know, stand in the back and drink a beer, you can do all those things.\u201d<\/p>\n
Adding to the ante of the evening is the tours co-headlining act Story Of The Year, who is touring alongside Silverstein for the first time in both bands\u2019 careers.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThose are great friends of ours and a band we\u2019ve never actually done a full tour with,\u201d said Told.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s going to feel like a big party, just celebrating two bands that against the odds, have made themselves into these bands who have each had 20-plus-year careers.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Because of this, Told promises an evening chock-full of entertainment.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re there to entertain, we\u2019re there to have a good time, we play the hits, we have a good time, we do a couple surprises, but we don\u2019t go, we don\u2019t take it too far. And at the end of the day, I think you know part of the reason that we\u2019ve been so successful with our career as a live band,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
