Fields avoided serious injury and significant missed time.

— New York Jets (@nyjets) July 24, 2025

The Jets also added that the signal caller avoided a serious injury and significant time missed. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the injury is not to his big toe.

Fields was carted off the practice field after appearing to suffer a lower leg injury during 11-on-11 drills. He reportedly got off the cart under his own power and walked into the facility.

While any injury to a quarterback in training camp draws immediate concern, especially one acquired to rejuvenate a struggling offense, the Jets appear to have dodged a major setback.

Fields’ diagnosis of a dislocated toe, while not insignificant, is far less severe than initial fears of an injury that would require him to miss significant time.

Being labeled “day-to-day” offers a sigh of relief for both the coaching staff and fan base, who have high hopes for the former first-round pick as he looks to carve out a long-term role as the team’s starting quarterback.

With Fields sidelined, veteran Tyrod Taylor is expected to take the bulk of first-team reps.

Entering his 14th NFL season, Taylor provides an experienced presence and has long been one of the league’s most dependable backups.

Behind him, Adrian Martinez and undrafted rookie Brady Cook will see increased snaps as they continue battling for a potential roster spot or practice squad role.

Aaron Glenn believes the Jets have quality depth at quarterback. That will be put to the test early in camp.

For now, New York will turn to Taylor’s steady leadership while monitoring Fields’ recovery closely in the days ahead.

Yes, New York Jets fans can breathe now.
