MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA<\/a>) – Jackson Hospital is issuing a statement days after postponing a scheduled news conference to discuss its future and possible closure amid ongoing bankruptcy proceedings.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the hospital reiterated that it\u2019s working \u201cin good faith with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama,\u201d along with city, county and state officials to \u201cfinalize the commitments necessary to support a sustainable path forward for the hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hospital administrators told WSFA 12 News on Friday that it postponed its news conference<\/b><\/a> \u201cafter the Board of Directors became aware of new developments late Thursday evening that require additional evaluation.\u201d Specific details on those development have not been made public.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing changes operationally today,\u201d said John Quinlivan, President and CEO of Jackson Hospital, said Monday. \u201cJackson Hospital remains open, our emergency department remains open, and our teams continue to care for patients.\u201d<\/p>\n

Court filings in early June showed that\u00a0Jackson told a bankruptcy judge that it was in imminent danger of closure<\/b><\/a>\u00a0without a deal to increase reimbursement rates paid by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.<\/p>\n

At that time, Jackson\u2019s board met and set a firm June 25 deadline for reaching an agreement. If one was not met, the board was to authorize and direct the hospital\u2019s management to begin closing procedures, Quinlivan said.<\/p>\n

The hospital had sued the insurance company<\/b><\/a>\u00a0in December, claiming it was withholding crucial funds of about $1.4 million as the hospital continues fighting to remain operational.\u00a0BCBS Alabama called the allegations \u201cnot accurate\u201d<\/b><\/a>\u00a0and said \u201cthe hospital has twisted our gesture\u201d of voluntarily providing it with a cash advance.<\/p>\n

On June 17, the federal bankruptcy judge overseeing the case denied\u00a0Jackson\u2019s request for preliminary injunction<\/b><\/a>\u00a0in a 14-page ruling, meaning the court would not force BCBS Alabama pay Jackson higher and\/or matching reimbursement rates with nearby Baptist Medical Center South.<\/p>\n

Quinlivan said Monday that the hospital remains \u201cencouraged by the continued engagement from its partners,\u201d but said \u201cthere are still important pieces that must be finalized.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOur focus remains on protecting access to local healthcare for the River Region and ensuring any path forward is financially sustainable,\u201d he added. \u201cWe will share additional updates as soon as we are able.\u201d<\/p>\n
