CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WVLT) – For the first time ever, the only house in Tennessee designed by legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright has hit the market. <\/p>\n

The house sits atop Chattanooga\u2019s Missionary Ridge, and the home\u2019s listing outlines the details of the building. Wright designed it at the request of newlyweds Seamour and Gerte Shavin, and construction finished in 1952. Since then, Sotheby\u2019s Realty says<\/a>, it\u2019s been maintained by the original family. <\/p>\n

\u201cHaving spent nearly 20 years as a real estate photographer and photographed almost 8,000 homes across 16 states, I can honestly say this was the first time I truly felt as though I was walking through a piece of art and history while photographing it,\u201d said Bruce McCamish. \u201cEvery room, every line, and every detail reminded me that this wasn\u2019t simply a house\u2014it was a masterpiece, thoughtfully designed and lovingly preserved for more than seven decades. Photographing it wasn\u2019t just another assignment; it was a privilege.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis architectural treasure was thoughtfully designed to embrace its extraordinary setting, capturing breathtaking views of the Tennessee River, Lookout Mountain and the surrounding landscape,\u201d the listing reads. <\/p>\n

The house features plenty of exposed wood and stone, a signature of Wright\u2019s work, and contains three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Snagging the house isn\u2019t cheap, though; it\u2019s on the market for $1.6 million. <\/p>\n

Wright spent 70 years designing buildings. He became one of the most prolific and controversial architects of the 20th century, earning 12 spots on the Architectural Record\u2019s hundred most important buildings of the century. <\/p>\n
