MILWAUKEE (AP) \u2014 Cincinnati Reds centerfielder Dane Myers was taken to a hospital for further examination after he was removed from the field on a cart in the fourth inning of Monday\u2019s 5-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers<\/a> after crashing into the outfield wall<\/p>\n

Myers made a running backhanded grab on Andrew Vaughn\u2019s leadoff drive, then hit the wall hard with what appeared to be his left shoulder. He held onto the ball for the out with the Reds leading 1-0.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was X-rayed here and it came back negative,\u201d Reds manager Terry Francona said after the game. \u201cSaying that, we sent him to the hospital because he was in so much pain and so uncomfortable.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe kid was really hurt and it wasn\u2019t going away. I think they want to check for a lot of things, because you saw how violent it was. He was really in pain, he\u2019s already at the hospital. We\u2019ll see what we can find out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Myers, who entered hitting .252, accounted for the Reds run with a two-out RBI double in the first.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat was an amazing catch,\u201d Francona said. \u201cHe\u2019s fearless going into the wall, and probably like nobody I\u2019ve ever seen. I can\u2019t believe he held on, but he paid a pretty big price for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

TJ Friedl, recalled from Triple-A Louisville on Sunday after outfielder Blake Dunn was placed on the injured list with a right elbow strain, replaced Myers in centerfield. <\/p>\n
