It might not be Paris, London or New York City, but the Dallas-Fort Worth<\/a> area has its own formidable collection of museums.<\/p>\n From art<\/a> to natural history to historic sites, North Texas has a breadth of collections to explore. These institutions are spread all throughout\u00a0the D-FW area so here’s a look at where they are,\u00a0what to expect and how much it’ll cost you before you head out for a visit.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s a guide to 10 of the most notable museums in D-FW. What to expect: The museum, which is located in the former Texas School Book Depository on Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas, explores the assassination and legacy of President John F. Kennedy, who was killed nearby in 1963.

Location: 1717 North Harwood, Dallas
What to expect: The museum, which anchors the downtown Arts District, features a vast collection of more than 25,000 artworks spanning continents and centuries.\u00a0

Location: 2943 SMU Boulevard, Dallas
What to expect: The museum explores the American presidency and consequential moments in Bush\u2019s tenure, most notably the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The museum also features a replica Oval Office and just outside, the Laura W. Bush Native Texas Park.

Location: 3333 Camp Bowie Boulevard, Fort Worth
What to expect: While it\u2019s a relatively small permanent collection of around 350 works, it spans thousands of years and features major works from artists like Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Bernini, Vel\u00e1zquez, Monet, Picasso and Matisse. The collection extends only to the mid-20th century and omits American art, as those are the domain of other nearby institutions.

What to expect: The museum features a breadth of permanent exhibits that examine the world around us, from animals and natural phenomena to the wider universe and dinosaurs. For adults 21 and older, the museum’s Thursdays on Tap event offers after-hours access to exhibits along with live music, food trucks and drinks.

What to expect: The museum exhibits a significant collection of modern and contemporary sculpture in a building Pulitzer Prize-winning Dallas Morning News architecture critic Mark Lamster called \u201ca work of supreme aesthetic and technical sophistication.\u201d\u00a0

What to expect: The Carter\u2019s collection features artists from the United States, ranging from early photographs to installations by artists active today. The museum was born from Amon Carter\u2019s collection of works by Frederic Remington and Charles M. Russell.

What to expect: The collection focuses on modern and contemporary art with works from the 1950s to the present. Artists featured include Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and many more.

What to expect: The museum is dedicated to the culture, history and art of African Americans. Its collection is made up of art, historical archives and other artifacts.
