{"id":904599,"date":"2026-07-01T04:06:16","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T04:06:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/904599\/"},"modified":"2026-07-01T04:06:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T04:06:16","slug":"northwest-side-apartment-residents-demand-answers-accountability-after-days-without-power","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/904599\/","title":{"rendered":"Northwest Side apartment residents demand answers, accountability after days without power"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\"><strong>SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 Residents at Fairways 5 Apartments on the Northwest Side say they went without power for several hours \u2014 and in some cases, days \u2014 over the weekend as temperatures were high. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Management told KSAT the issue began with a CPS Energy issue and that the property has worked with the utility to resolve it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">One resident, Jennifer Arguello, said the outage made conditions inside apartments unbearable as temperatures climbed, leaving families scrambling for alternatives. <\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Arguello, who has a 1-year-old child, said her family worked to keep their toddler out of a nearly 90-degree apartment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">\u201cEverybody\u2019s struggling right now, and then with little kids who have no say so, no voice, and the elderly who are living here needing the electricity because they\u2019re on oxygen \u2026 just with the heat itself,\u201d Arguello said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Arguello said while she was out running errands on Saturday, her son and husband heard a transformer blow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Fairways 5 Apartments property management emailed KSAT saying the property \u201crecently experienced a temporary electrical outage resulting from damage associated with electrical infrastructure after utility work in the area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Though the outage began as one building losing power, the entire property lost power after work began to fix the initial outage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">During a phone call with KSAT and Fairways 5 Apartments, management said, \u201cWe had an issue on our side with a building, and then CPS (Energy) came and said, \u2018We need a part to fix that building,\u2019 and they said, well, we can\u2019t give that to you till Monday,\u201d the manager said. \u201cThen, CPS (Energy) tried to bypass that line, and it put the rest of the property out. All power off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Management said crews began responding immediately and provided an outline of the issues addressed and the repair timeline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">\u201cThroughout the event, our highest priority has been the safety and well-being of our residents,\u201d the emailed statement from Fairways 5 Apartments management said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">Arguello said the outage quickly became expensive. Arguello said her family stayed in a budget-friendly hotel for two nights, that all their groceries spoiled, and they had to buy meals, which totaled about $640 between Saturday and early Tuesday morning, when the power returned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">KSAT reached out to CPS Energy for details. A CPS Energy spokesperson said crews responded to the outage and \u201csuccessfully completed all necessary repairs to CPS Energy-owned equipment.\u201d When asked to confirm whether a transformer blew, CPS Energy said the \u201cinitial cause of the outage was equipment failure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Box-_wrDxHtU__Box-sc-10sa3ie-0 Text-nO2aZ44r__TextBase-sc-s2hv5x-0 jJNfBD fSvavs article-text\">As of Tuesday, the complex said it restored temporary power to every unit with generators operating on-site.
