Kathy Griffin claims she\u2019s been effectively banned from Jimmy Fallon\u2019s \u201cTonight Show\u201d because she\u2019s \u201ctoo inappropriate or controversial.\u201d<\/p>\n
The comedian, 65, said Tuesday that she hasn\u2019t appeared on NBC\u2019s late-night talk show since Fallon became host in 2014, which led her to believe she\u2019s no longer welcome. <\/p>\n
\u201cI have not done the Jimmy Fallon show since it was on at 12:30 Eastern and Pacific, so I guess I\u2019m banned from the Fallon show, or inappropriate, or too controversial,\u201d Griffin said in an Instagram video<\/a>.<\/p>\n Kathy Griffin claims she has been \u201cbanned\u201d from Jimmy Fallon\u2019s \u201cTonight Show\u201d for being \u201ctoo controversial.\u201d kathygriffin\/Instagram<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t even know. They just can\u2019t seem to find room for you.\u201d<\/p>\n Her last appearance on \u201cThe Tonight Show\u201d was in 2013 when Jay Leno was host.<\/p>\n Griffin praised Fallon and said that the \u201cTaxi\u201d actor \u201cwas always super nice to me\u201d during her appearances while he hosted \u201cLate Night\u201d from 2009 to 2014, but criticized some of his booking decisions since he took over \u201cThe Tonight Show.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI do think it was a bad call for him to have convicted rapist<\/a> Conor McGregor on,\u201d she said, referring to the former UFC champion\u2019s appearance on June 16<\/p>\n \u201cI think the Fallon folks made a mistake by having Conor McGregor on. I think it sends yet another message to women and marginalized folks everywhere that we\u2019re not equal and you can do anything to us, and the perpetrators are still going to be out there being glorified.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThey don\u2019t usually tell you you\u2019re banned. I don\u2019t know, that didn\u2019t sit well with me,\u201d Griffin said.<\/p>\n \u201cI didn\u2019t like when Lorne Michaels had [Trump] host \u2018Saturday Night Live.\u2019 I think it\u2019s time we kind of make up our minds about who we\u2019re going to cancel and who we\u2019re not. AND can we PLEASE save canceling people for the ones who actually deserve it?\u201d<\/p>\n The comedian sparked widespread backlash in 2017 after posting a photo of herself holding a fake bloodied severed head resembling then-President Trump.\u00a0<\/p>\n At the time, Trump said Griffin \u201cshould be ashamed of herself,\u201d while Griffin later said, \u201cI don\u2019t think I will have a career after this \u2026 [Trump] broke me. He broke me.\u201d<\/p>\n Griffin has defended posting an image of\u00a0Trump\u2019s severed head in 2017, saying she is \u201cvery proud of it.\u201d Getty Images<\/p>\n Earlier this year, Griffin said she stood by the controversial image<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI absolutely lean into it, because I was right, and I was ahead of my time,\u201d she told WUSF in February.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd so, when I look at that picture now, I\u2019m very proud of it.\u201d<\/p>\n Griffin has largely stayed out of the spotlight in recent years.<\/p>\n She last starred in FX\u2019s 2021 comedy documentary \u201cHysterical,\u201d voiced an episode of \u201cFuturama\u201d in 2023, and self-produced her 2025 stand-up special, \u201cMy Life on the PTSD List,\u201d which chronicled her lung cancer diagnosis and the fallout from the 2017 Trump photo scandal.<\/p>\n In April, Griffin also acknowledged donating $10,000 to Rep.
