SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) \u2014 Regardless of any tentative agreements on the table, negotiations continue regarding how much police officers should be paid in San Antonio.<\/p>\n

In addition to pay raises, health benefits are emerging as critical issues as the City of San Antonio continues to negotiate with the San Antonio Police Officers Association (SAPOA).<\/p>\n

The union is proposing a 21% percent wage increase, but the city of countering with a 13% pay raise over three years. As early as last week, the most recent proposal also included a 15% wage increase on the current contract that was approved back in 2022.<\/p>\n

By comparison, the San Antonio Fire Department was able to get a 20% raise in its labor agreement that kicked in two years ago.<\/p>\n

Tentative agreements include a number of provisions, including additional supervisors for police security at major events, family leave in the event of miscarriages, and the removal of 10-hour shifts.<\/p>\n

A major factor in negotiations between San Antonio and\u00a0 SAPOA is the city\u2019s projected $157.7 million budget deficit over the next two fiscal years.<\/p>\n

The two sides will meet again July 9.<\/p>\n

The union represents 2,850 police officers in San Antonio.<\/p>\n
