\n\tNearly two years after suing Marvel<\/a>, Beau DeMayo<\/a> has opened up about the alleged treatment he endured leading up to his March 2024 termination<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe X-Men \u201997 creator, who was ousted from the show<\/a> ahead of its premiere, claimed he was \u201cvery honest\u201d about his OnlyFans<\/a> work with Marvel Studios Animation, adding that he felt like a \u201cDEI hire\u201d during his tenure with the MCU.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was cleared,\u201d DeMayo told Vanity Fair<\/a>. \u201cIt was like, \u2018It is your personal life. As long as you\u2019re not advertising the show on your OnlyFans, as long as you\u2019re keeping it very separate from the content of the show, it\u2019s outside of their purview.\u2019<\/p>\n

\n\tRecalling comments like, \u201coh, you don\u2019t look like a showrunner,\u201d and \u201cyou don\u2019t look like a writer,\u201d DeMayo explained, \u201cThere was that vibe that I was the DEI hire, where, \u2018Oh, they just got a gay Black guy because he checks all the marks and it\u2019s X-Men.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn addition to earning a Season 2 renewal for X-Men \u201997 before the first even premiered, DeMayo was asked to punch up the ultimately doomed Blade reboot starring Mahershala Ali.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cSome of those racist, sexist, homophobic vibes that I was getting before Blade became much more explicit,\u201d said DeMayo of returning to X-Men \u201997.<\/p>\n

\n\tDeMayo abruptly exited as head writer<\/a> of the Disney<\/a>+\/Marvel series in March 2024, ahead of its premiere. At the time, he had completed writing Seasons 1 and 2 of the animated series, which premiered to strong reviews.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s been very traumatic,\u201d he added. \u201cI thought I was in a safe space, and then quickly found out that I was not in a safe space. My therapist is well employed.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLater that year, DeMayo claimed Marvel notified him that they \u201cstripped my Season 2 credits<\/a>\u201d over a piece of X-Men fan art he posted for Pride Month. \u201cSadly, this is the latest in a troubling pattern I suffered through while on working on #XMen97 and #Blade,\u201d he wrote on social media at the time.<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing DeMayo\u2019s claims, a Marvel spokesperson said in a statement, \u201cMr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately and he has no further affiliation with Marvel.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe company would not comment further. According to Marvel sources, DeMayo was investigated for alleged sexual misconduct, and the credit removal was due to breaches of the two sides\u2019 separation agreement.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn September 2024, DeMayo called the allegations \u201cfalse\u201d<\/a> after his attorney Bryan Freedman called out Disney\u2019s \u201crepetitive illegal pattern<\/a>\u201d in a statement. \u201cOnce it gets challenged or exposed, the gaslighting and redirection of the blame toward anyone willing to tell the truth starts through an international well oiled publicity machine,\u201d he said in August 2024.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cBeau DeMayo wants nothing from Marvel\/Disney except the truth,\u201d added Freedman. \u201cHe will bravely tell the truth. So will I.
