{"id":90741,"date":"2025-07-25T07:00:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T07:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/90741\/"},"modified":"2025-07-25T07:00:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-25T07:00:10","slug":"south-africa-resumes-animal-genetic-material-exports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/90741\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa resumes animal genetic material exports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 300 Bonsmara<br \/>\nembryos were sent to Paraguay last month after lengthy negotiations to<br \/>\nreinstate export protocols.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dr Pierre van Rooyen is the<br \/>\nretired CEO of the SA Stud Book and chair of the National Genetic Export<br \/>\nAdvisory Committee.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He says South Africa was<br \/>\neffectively shut out of the global genetics market a major blow for local stud<br \/>\nbreeders whose animals remain in high demand.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0READ:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecr.co.za\/news\/news\/new-foot-mouth-disease-outbreak-confirmed-free-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Foot-and-Mouth Disease outbreak confirmed in Free State<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Van Rooyen says South<br \/>\nAfrica\u2019s indigenous breeds are especially prized for their hardiness,<br \/>\nadaptability and production ability backed by trusted breeding systems and<br \/>\nperformance records.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>However, he adds that people<br \/>\nare still very anxious to get our genetic material.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u200a&#8221;Regardless the fact that we have foot and mouth,<br \/>\nthere are certain restrictions and certain guidelines for this, and this is a<br \/>\nquite elaborate type of negotiation. The thing is that the negotiations can<br \/>\nonly be done on the interdepartmental of level.
