SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – A Trinity sixth grader has won one of the area\u2019s biggest golf trophies, becoming the youngest champion in the history of the Greater South Bend Women\u2019s Metro.<\/p>\n
Paige Sweikar fired matching rounds of 76 to claim the 99th edition of the tournament. She said competing against older players pushed her to improve.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a little bit intimidating but at the end I always have fun playing with them and it always shows me what I can improve on,\u201d Sweikar said. \u201cI have learned quite a bit from them and all my mistakes that I can help make me better.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sweikar credited her brothers for helping shape her game at an early age.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy brothers always used to play all these tournaments and I just one day decided I wanted to play myself,\u201d she said. \u201cThey help me out a lot and they always tell me tips and stuff that can make me better.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sweikar also competes at the national level, including at Pinehurst for a U.S. Kids Championship.<\/p>\n
\u201cProbably this one. I really like this one a lot. And I go to Pinehurst for a U.S. Kids Championship and I always love playing down there,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Bruno\u2019s Pizza in downtown South Bend recognized Sweikar\u2019s accomplishment by gifting her one free pizza a month for the rest of the year.<\/p>\n
