Final Fantasy VII Rebirth didn\u2019t get any real DLC to speak of. That might not be the case for its sequel, Revelation<\/a>. The third part in Square Enix\u2019s Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy is apparently getting a story DLC,\u00a0 based on references to an expansion pass that recently leaked on the Epic Games Store\u2019s backend.<\/p>\n

The storefront\u2019s backend received a number of updates overnight to the Final Fantasy VII Revelation listing, including references to a number of DLCs. One of the entries also mentions a \u201cStory Expansion Pass\u201d for the game, something previous entries in the trilogy did not have. Remake received a major new story content called Episode Intermission<\/a>, which starred Yuffie and originally shipped with the Intergrade version of the game for PlayStation 5. Rebirth only received small bonus items like the Magic Pot Accessory summon Materia and Reclaimant Choker accessory.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no way to know what these backend references are actually referring to. It could be just bonus items and costumes, or a meatier story DLC. Fans are obviously hopeful it\u2019s the latter, especially with Revelation being the final game in the trilogy. Director Naoki Hamaguchi explained why Rebirth wouldn\u2019t receive an Episode Intermission\u2013style add-on back in a 2024 interview.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe definitely do hear the desire from fans, the voices out there that want that kind of thing,\u201d he told The Daily Star<\/a> at the time. \u201cI understand it completely, but I think, from my perspective, what the fans really want to see the most is not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

But with no fourth game to rush to and begin production on, Hamaguchi\u2019s team seemingly has time to focus on some extra DLC for Revelation. \u201cAs for DLC beyond the third installment, I believe that will ultimately depend on how strongly fans continue to support Final Fantasy VII as both a title and a franchise. If there is significant demand, we\u2019d certainly be open to exploring those possibilities proactively,\u201d he told ntower<\/a>\u00a0(via\u00a0GamesRadar<\/a>) earlier this year.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s pretty non-committal, but another thing the Revelation DLC<\/a> theory has going for it is that the third game is arriving in spring 2027, roughly a year before Sony is expected to launch the PS6. Maybe history will repeat itself, and we\u2019ll get an upgraded version of Revelation for next-gen consoles, complete with a new story chapter this time, too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Final Fantasy VII Rebirth didn\u2019t get any real DLC to speak of.
