Walker\/Globe Staff<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">For the festival\u2019s 21st year, organizers decided to honor the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/04\/12\/metro\/guide-250th-revolution-lexington-concord\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/04\/12\/metro\/guide-250th-revolution-lexington-concord\/\">250th Anniversary of the American Revolution.<\/a> In addition to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/04\/17\/metro\/paul-revere-route-on-foot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2025\/04\/17\/metro\/paul-revere-route-on-foot\/\">Paul Revere centerpiece statue<\/a>, attendees can enjoy the free<b> <\/b>multi-day event that features 75 food vendors, amusement rides, various activities, and a fireworks show. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">The winner of the sand castle competition, whose participants have come from all over the world, will be crowned on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Melineige Beauregard, one of the judges, said she enjoys the sand sculpting festival\u2019s competitive nature. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cIt\u2019s really difficult to judge, and we all have different styles. But still for me, it\u2019s still kind of a rush of competing to try to push myself more,\u201d said Beauregard, who previously participated in the competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Bruce Phillips, a sand sculptor from San Diego, has been sculpting since he was introduced to the concept at his local mall in 1992. His piece this year features chains wrapped around a sand block. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Phillips said sand sculpting is usually a solitary endeavor, so he liked that a lot of sculptors were gathered in one place. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cThere\u2019s probably 100 master-level artists and we don\u2019t always get to work together on different projects.. it\u2019s always good to get together in the evenings and while working,\u201d Phillips said. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"img-KJHBBMYV32SZJIHW2CWOYMZOKU-image\" alt=\"Bruce Phillips, of San Diego, CA, sprayed down a column of sand.\" class=\"height_a width_full invisible width_full--mobile width_full--tablet-only\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/KJHBBMYV32SZJIHW2CWOYMZOKU.jpg\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/>Bruce Phillips, of San Diego, CA, sprayed down a column of sand.Craig F. Walker\/Globe Staff<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Marissa Babin<b> <\/b>traveled from Malden to attend the festival and see the detailed sculptures. The creations never cease to amaze Babin, who\u2019s an artist herself.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cI love drawing. I have no experience doing sand sculptures or anything like that, but I guess because I love art so much in general, that\u2019s why I find it really cool,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Adrienne Maguire, executive board member of the Revere Beach Partnership,<b> <\/b>a nonprofit that works to make the beach more enjoyable for visitors, first introduced the idea of a sand sculpting competition 21 years ago. To Maguire, the festival showcases the Partnership\u2019s mission to \u201cpreserve and enhance America\u2019s first public beach.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201cWe know that the sculptors love being here and to me, that means we\u2019re doing something right,\u201d she said<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"img-5DUU2SZQUX455TC6D3CSSHYJFY-image\" alt=\"Polish sculptor Wiaczeslaw Borecki shaped one of the faces in his piece, Deep Sleep. \" class=\"height_a width_full invisible width_full--mobile width_full--tablet-only\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/5DUU2SZQUX455TC6D3CSSHYJFY.jpg\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/>Polish sculptor Wiaczeslaw Borecki shaped one of the faces in his piece, Deep Sleep. Walker\/Globe Staff<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Connie Neibauer and Jacob Stoll, who are visiting Revere from Wisconsin for a family wedding, stumbled upon the sand sculptures while walking down the beach. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">\u201c[The sculptures] are beautiful and the detail is amazing,\u201d Neibauer said. \u201cI\u2019ve seen ice sculptures in Wisconsin, but [in] bad weather, they melt quickly. This is really cool to walk up to.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph | gutter_20_0\">Artists must finish their pieces by 2 p.m. on Saturday, and then visitors can vote for their favorites from 2 to 4 p.m. The winner will be announced on Saturday night, but the sculptures will remain on the beach through the end of the festival on Sunday. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"img-4F54ODPL6MCZ3CHK6URNY74W7Y-image\" alt=\"Matthew Deibert, of Smithville, NJ, shaped the head of his piece at Revere Beach.
