Tony Jones of The Athletic first reported that Philadelphia had <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/07\/sixers-register-interest-in-lebron-james.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">registered interest<\/a> in the NBA\u2019s all-time leading scorer in the wake of the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/07\/celtics-to-trade-jaylen-brown-to-sixers-for-paul-george-picks.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">trade<\/a> to acquire <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/b\/brownja02.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-03_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jaylen Brown<\/a><\/strong> from Boston. The 76ers also reached a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/07\/anfernee-simons-agrees-to-two-year-deal-with-sixers.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">contract agreement<\/a> with free agent guard <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/s\/simonan01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-03_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Anfernee Simons<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know the face of this team, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/maxeyty01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-03_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tyrese Maxey<\/a><\/strong>, he has a relationship with <strong>LeBron James<\/strong>,\u201d Charania said. \u201cBut listen, the Sixers are a late inclusion in this process. Over the last 24-48 hours, teams around the league that I speak to, this has been Cleveland, Golden State, Miami as far as the teams that make the most logical sense for <strong>LeBron James<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s always going to be one or two others, right? A team like the Sixers. \u2026 But we\u2019ll see what happens with LeBron over the coming days and weeks, potentially.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As Charania\u2019s colleague <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/49252040\/sources-76ers-enter-mix-lebron-james-jaylen-brown-add\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Anthony Slater reports for ESPN<\/a>, while the <strong>Warriors<\/strong> have been \u201cgiven indications\u201d that they\u2019re still on James\u2019 \u201cshort list\u201d of preferred destinations, they\u2019re also under the impression that may not necessarily be atop said list. Golden State has long been linked to the 41-year-old, who informed the Lakers on Tuesday morning that he wouldn\u2019t be returning for a ninth season in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few more rumors and notes from around the NBA:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"longlis\">\n<li><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theringer.com\/podcasts\/the-bill-simmons-podcast\/2026\/07\/02\/nba-trade-news-free-agency-signings-and-more-with-bill-simmons-kirk-goldsberry-and-chris-ryan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Bill Simmons of The Ringer<\/a> reported on his podcast on Thursday morning that part of the reason the Bucks agreed to trade <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/antetgi01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-03_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Giannis Antetokounmpo<\/a><\/strong> to the Heat instead of the <strong>Celtics<\/strong> is that Boston was only willing to offer the two-time MVP a two-year extension worth 30% of the salary cap, rather than a three-year, 35% max deal. A source who spoke to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.celticsblog.com\/boston-celtics-news\/142913\/celtics-giannis-contract-extension-bucks-jaylen-brown#comments\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Noa Dalzell of CelticsBlog<\/a> refuted that claim though, as Dalzell hears Boston was willing to offer Antetokounmpo the maximum contract he was seeking.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rockets<\/strong> forward <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/e\/easonta01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-03_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Tari Eason<\/a><\/strong> suggested he wasn\u2019t exactly thrilled with the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/07\/rockets-tari-eason-agree-to-five-year-deal.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">five-year, $81.5MM<\/a> contract agreement he reached as a restricted free agent. About an hour before the news broke, he sent out a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TAR13ASON\/status\/2072819328307662974\" rel=\"nofollow\">tweet<\/a> that said, \u201cI guess bruh\u201d followed by a shrugging emoji. For what it\u2019s worth, Eason and Houston were said to be <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/10\/no-rookie-scale-extensions-for-rockets-eason-11-others.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">far apart<\/a> in rookie scale extension talks before the season began. ESPN\u2019s Brian Windhorst <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/10\/rockets-notes-eason-durant-sengun-more.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">reported<\/a> at the time that the Rockets made a \u201cstrong\u201d final offer in October worth $100M+, but he wasn\u2019t sure how much of that total was guaranteed. Notably, Charania reported on Thursday that the new deal Eason agreed to features more guaranteed money than he was offered in the fall, but that doesn\u2019t mean it was what he was hoping for.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Timberwolves<\/strong> were among the teams who unsuccessfully tried to sign <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/w\/willike04.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2026-07-03_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kenrich Williams<\/a><\/strong> away from Oklahoma City, according to Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News and Skor North (<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DWolfsonKSTP\/status\/2072808062679679271\" rel=\"nofollow\">Twitter link<\/a>). Williams, who became an unrestricted free agent when he had his $7.2MM team option <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/06\/thunder-to-pick-up-lu-dorts-option-make-kenrich-williams-ufa.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">declined<\/a>, agreed to re-sign with the <strong>Thunder<\/strong> on a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2026\/07\/thunder-to-re-sign-kenrich-williams.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">one-year, $5MM<\/a> deal.
