The End of Oak Street<\/a>\u00a0is out in just over a month, and now that we know it\u2019s about dinosaurs, one question will be on audiences\u2019 minds: how does this stack up to Jurassic Park?<\/p>\n

Love it or hate it, the long-running franchise has been the first and last word when it comes to cinematic dinos, particularly thanks to the Jurassic World<\/a>\u00a0films. While the \u201chow\u201d of\u00a0Oak Street\u00a0is a mystery, it\u2019s easy to connect it to the\u00a0Jurassic\u00a0movies, something producer J.J. Abrams isn\u2019t really avoiding. He told Empire magazine<\/a> that he loves those films, but was quick to point out how they mainly take place in \u201cthese beautiful jungles and distant lands.\u201d Even the films set in populated areas tend to turn those places into a ghost town pretty quickly or shift focus to somewhere more isolated.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not the case with\u00a0The End of Oak Street. Since it\u2019s set in an actual neighborhood, the film can partially deliver on the promise that later\u00a0Jurassic World movies didn\u2019t fully capitalize on. Abrams credited writer\/director David Robert Mitchell for \u201cthe juxtaposition of absolute mundane suburban family life\u2014swing sets and ice-cream trucks, above-ground pools and school buses\u2014and dinosaurs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The trailers haven\u2019t\u00a0quite\u00a0leaned into that juxtaposition, instead focusing on the Platt family realizing their situation<\/a> and trying to survive. But that contrast will be in the film itself, since Abrams said the film will \u201cdeliver on everything\u201d in the marketing. We\u2019ll see when\u00a0The End of Oak Street\u00a0hits theaters on August 14.<\/p>\n
