JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 As we approach America\u2019s 250th birthday, semi-quincentennial celebrations are planned <\/b>all across Florida\u2019s First Coast. The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens held its festivities Friday.<\/p>\n
Visitors were greeted by the sounds of multiple musical genres from multi-generational band The Committee. <\/p>\n
And had food such as the museum cafe\u2019s Americana-themed cookout courtesy of Chef\u2019s Garden Catering.<\/p>\n
\u201cMini beef hot dog, we have tater tots, mac & cheese, pops, and we have mini burger sliders,\u201d said Chef Farshad Zamani, showing the food to our camera.<\/p>\n
The Cummer Museum had all the trappings of a Fourth of July barbecue.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe just made it a big party for the community,\u201d said Museum spokeswoman Kelly Belich.<\/p>\n
And who in the community is more excited than the kids \u2014 like seven year old Gregeory. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhat do you enjoy about the Fourth of July?\u201d asked Action News Jax\u2019s Zion Decoteau. <\/p>\n
\u201cUuhhh\u2026. That you get to do firewoooooorks!!!\u201d Gregory replied emphatically!<\/p>\n
As the museum is closed on the Fourth of July, it pulled out all the stops for the third. Did we mention it was free\u2014instead of its usual free first Saturday admission. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhat an important moment in our nation, history, and what better way to celebrate it than together as a community for free families, people of all ages together, I mean, that\u2019s sort of what it\u2019s all about,\u201d Belich explained. <\/p>\n
While the museum doesn\u2019t have a specific America 250 exhibit, everything here today speaks to the country\u2019s history, such as music. <\/p>\n
\u201cMusic is an expression of all of us,\u201d said The Committee guitarist Justin Lane. \u201cAfrican culture, from Native American culture that\u2019s him, like informed blues and rock, everything that is American music,\u201d Lane continued. <\/p>\n
Even appreciation of American art speaks to our history. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I think that\u2019s just a universal and important experience for everybody,\u201d said Belich<\/p>\n
