The round of 32 is complete, with tournament co-hosts U.S.<\/a>, Canada<\/a> and Mexico<\/a> among the teams vying for a spot in next week\u2019s quarterfinals.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s everything you need to know about the World Cup round-of-16 matches being played Saturday, Sunday and Monday across the U.S., Mexico and Canada (all times Pacific).<\/p>\n

Time:<\/b> 10 a.m.

The buzz: <\/b>Canada, the first World Cup host to play outside its borders, eliminated South Africa on a stoppage-time goal from LAFC midfielder Stephen Eust\u00e1quio at SoFi Stadium in the team\u2019s first-ever elimination game. Playing again in the U.S., Canada could be even stronger and more confident with Alphonso Davies back from injury. Morocco, one of nine African teams to reach the knockout stages, got a stoppage-time goal from defender Issa Diop to send its round-of-32 game with the Netherlands to penalty kicks, then got a big save from keeper Yassine Bounou to knock off another major European power. Four years ago, Morocco eliminated Spain on penalties.<\/p>\n

Paraguay vs. France \"France's <\/p>\n

The buzz: <\/b>Paraguay, the third-place team from Group D, was dominated by Germany everywhere but on the scoreboard, stunning the four-time champion on penalties in the upset of the tournament. Germany had the ball 76% of the time and outshot Paraguay 21-7, but Paraguayan keeper Orlando Gill was phenomenal, especially in the shootout. France has been the dominant team of this World Cup, winning all four of its games while outscoring opponents 13-2. Captain Kylian Mbapp\u00e9 has six of those goals.<\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s round of 16 matchesBrazil vs. Norway \"Norway's <\/p>\n

The buzz: <\/b>Brazil rallied from a halftime deficit to eliminate Japan, 2-1, on a stoppage-time goal from second-half substitute Gabriel Martinelli. That kept alive a couple of streaks: Brazil has made it to the round of 16 in every World Cup since 1966, while Japan has yet to win an elimination game. Norway, playing in the tournament for the first time since Erling Haaland was born, has gotten five goals from its captain, including the winner in the 86th minute of his team\u2019s round-of-32 victory over Ivory Coast, Norway\u2019s first-ever win in the knockout rounds.<\/p>\n

Mexico vs. England \"England's <\/p>\n

Where:<\/b> Azteca Stadium, Mexico City
Time: <\/b>5 p.m.

The buzz: <\/b>Mexico rode a pair of first-half goals to a 2-0 win over Ecuador, its first victory in the knockout stages since 1986, the last time the World Cup was played in Mexico. El Tri is averaging two goals a game and has yet to concede one. A win here, in the smoggy and thin air of Azteca, would send Mexico to the quarterfinals, again for the first time since 1986. England, meanwhile, needed two goals from Harry Kane in the last 15 minutes to get past the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Kane has scored five of England\u2019s eight goals.<\/p>\n

The buzz: <\/b>Spain\u2019s win over Austria in the round of 32 was its first in a World Cup knockout game since 2010, when it won the title. After opening with a scoreless draw against Cape Verde, the reigning European champions have scored eight goals in the last three games, with Mikel Oyarzabal notching a pair of braces. More impressively, Spain has not conceded a goal. Portugal got a stoppage-time goal from Goncalo Ramos and a friendly VAR decision to hold off Croatia. Cristiano Ronaldo, whose trophy case lacks just one prize \u2014 a World Cup \u2014 scored on a penalty in that game and has three goals in the tournament.<\/p>\n

The buzz: <\/b>These teams met in the round of 16 in Brazil in 2014 with Belgium winning in extra time despite American Tim Howard make a tournament-record 16 saves. Belgium\u2019s lineup that day included goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, midfielders Axel Witsel and Kevin De Bruyne and striker Romelu Lukaku. All four are still on the team. The U.S. squad is different in ways that go far beyond the roster. Its three wins and 10 goals are the most ever by an American team in the World Cup. And its round-of-32 win was its second ever in a World Cup elimination game. Beating Belgium would send the U.S. to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2002. But the team will be without leading scorer Folarin Balogun, who is suspended after receiving a harsh red card in the second half of last week\u2019s win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.<\/p>\n
