We had some good times in New York, good seasons, played\u00a0on good teams.\u00a0He\u2019s\u00a0one of those guys that brings a lot of the intangibles that you want in a hockey team.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
On what Goodrow told him about San Jose\u2026<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\nHe spoke very, very highly of it. Spoke highly of the group, of the organization, living in San Jose. He enjoys it.\u00a0Didn\u2019t\u00a0have many negatives to say, if any.\u00a0So\u00a0pretty excited.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On how he can help the\u00a0San Jose\u00a0Sharks\u2019 young defensemen\u2026<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\nBuild relationships with them, build trust, be there to answer questions,\u00a0to lean\u00a0on.\u00a0There\u2019s\u00a0ups and downs, there\u2019s\u00a0hard times\u00a0throughout the season, throughout young players\u2019 careers. I went through them,\u00a0I think everybody\u00a0goes through them, and just being there for someone to talk to, go out, get dinner, do whatever you need to do to help them through it.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0probably the\u00a0biggest thing,\u00a0is\u00a0just the relationship and having someone that you feel you can lean on and trust and rely on.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On if\u00a0previously moving to the Anaheim Ducks made it easier to stay on the West Coast\u2026<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\nDefinitely a little bit easier, just being out here for a year and having a little bit of\u00a0the familiarity.\u00a0You\u2019re\u00a0not moving all the way across the country again. So that\u00a0helped.\u00a0Probably a\u00a0little bit different, different\u00a0organization, but\u00a0being in California has been great for me and my family, and\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0excited to stay for a couple more years.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On how\u00a0he\u2019ll\u00a0keep himself fit through age 36 at the end of this deal\u2026<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\nTake care of yourself, take care of your body.\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0learned throughout my career the things I need to do to be at my best. Use the summers to get back into the shape I want to be\u00a0in, and\u00a0roll into camp ready to go.\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0been the\u00a0plan\u00a0the last four or five years, and\u00a0that\u2019ll\u00a0be my plan going forward.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On the importance of having a relationship with Mike Grier from their time with the New York Rangers\u2026<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\nObviously,\u00a0a little\u00a0familiarity. He\u00a0probably knows\u00a0me in the rink setting,\u00a0practice\u00a0rink and all that kind of stuff a little bit better than other people.
