Some attendees speculated that access challenges related to City Hall’s reported operation of a single elevator may have contributed to delays.

At 10:18 a.m., staff announced the meeting would be canceled because a quorum of the 11-member committee was not present. Under standard parliamentary procedures, including Robert’s Rules of Order, official meetings cannot proceed without the required number of voting members in attendance.

The announcement prompted visible frustration from at least one registered public speaker who had arrived prepared to address the committee. The individual expressed concerns regarding unresolved disability-related grievances and questioned the effectiveness of the committee’s role in addressing community concerns. Additional frustrations centered on what was described as a recurring cycle of referrals to federal and state agencies, including the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, rather than receiving direct local resolutions.

Mayor’s Committee on Persons with Disabilities

Documenter: Edward McDaniel

Date: June 11, 2026

To learn more about this meeting, click here. During the conversation, she also noted that three positions on the committee are vacant and encouraged interested residents to consider applying for appointment.

Although the meeting did not proceed, several presenters and visitors remained engaged with attendees. Representatives from Trinity Metro were present and offered community members the opportunity to request copies of their prepared presentation by providing an email address. Trinity Metro staff also distributed branded informational swag bags containing transit resources, including TEXRail route maps, paratransit service information, rider planning materials, and other transportation tools designed to help residents navigate public transit options throughout the region.

Also in attendance were student groups observing local government processes and interns participating through the NextGen Ambassador program. The meeting provided them with an opportunity to witness firsthand how public meetings are structured and how procedural requirements can affect government operations.

Following the announcement that the committee’s next regularly scheduled meeting is expected to occur on the second Thursday of the month, attendees gradually departed. By 10:23 a.m., the gathering had dispersed.

Edward McDaniel is a member of the Fort Worth Report Documenters crew.
