{"id":914644,"date":"2026-07-05T18:21:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-05T18:21:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/914644\/"},"modified":"2026-07-05T18:21:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-05T18:21:14","slug":"new-lemon-grove-arts-collective-debuts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/914644\/","title":{"rendered":"New Lemon Grove Arts Collective debuts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>August 15 Reveal Celebration to feature \u201cBe Art\u201d theme<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By Helen Broady and Anne Stapleton<\/p>\n<p>July 5, 2026 (Lemon Grove) \u2014 When Calvin Manson was a child, he was asked what he wanted to be when he grew up.\u00a0 \u201cI want to be art\u201d, he replied. \u201cOh, his teacher said.\u00a0 \u201cYou want to be an artist!\u201d\u00a0 \u201cNo\u201d, said young Calvin.\u00a0 \u201cI want to be art .\u201c\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now Mr. Manson, an accomplished playwright, painter, poet and more who moved to Lemon Grove with his wife about four years ago, is teaching the community what it means to \u201cbe art.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He has been sharing his vision of Lemon Grove as the cultural center of East County, a destination where visitors and residents alike come to enjoy and participate in cultural events while supporting local artists and businesses,\u00a0 He envisions turning vacant or underused spaces into showcases for visual and performing arts.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Manson believes that when we greet our neighbors with a smile, that is art. We can choose to be art daily in the way we express ourselves and respond to the people around us.<\/p>\n<p>From a small group who met in his garage last year, a growing number of residents, neighbors, artists of all genres and those who support the arts, have been encouraged to dream big, spurred on by his talent, his enthusiasm and his leadership.\u00a0 From this dream the new Lemon Grove Arts Collective was formed.<\/p>\n<p>The mission statement of the Collective includes a plan \u201cto create inclusive and accessible spaces where artists are seen, heard, and supported\u2026 and to bring people together for connection, cultural expression and community\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 Other goals are to promote local artists and their work, to collaborate with schools districts, SDSU and other arts groups to expand the artistic community of Lemon Grove and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n<p>The collective now meets monthly at the Neighborhood Event Center, 7963 Broadway, every fourth Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.\u00a0 All are welcome.
