NEW YORK (PIX11) \u2014 New York City\u2019s Office of Emergency Management issued a travel advisory ahead of expected heavy rain and flash flooding<\/a> around the tri-state.<\/p>\n

The city advises commuters to limit travel during the anticipated thunderstorms,<\/a> where multiple inches of rain could fall very quickly, resulting in flooding on streets, highways and even in subway stations.<\/p>\n

Mayor Zohran Mamdani has mobilized the full emergency response to clear catch basins and inspect flood-prone neighborhoods and contact residents in basement apartments.<\/p>\n

The travel advisory is in effect until Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Most areas in the tri-state are expected to get 2-3 inches, possibly 4 or more inches in some areas.<\/p>\n

Intense thunderstorms and periods of gusty winds are expected Sunday night into Monday. Rounds of heavy rain are expected as well, according to the NWS.<\/p>\n

Northern New Jersey has the highest risk of excessive rainfall leading to flash flooding on Sunday. New York City, Long Island and Westchester are at high risk on Monday as well.<\/p>\n
