{"id":915731,"date":"2026-07-06T06:12:20","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T06:12:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/915731\/"},"modified":"2026-07-06T06:12:20","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T06:12:20","slug":"all-the-classic-gaming-news-from-the-past-week-july-5th-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/915731\/","title":{"rendered":"All The Classic Gaming News From The Past Week (July 5th 2026)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>XBLA Version Of Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night Gets The Recompilation Treatment<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a fan of classic Metroidvania titles, then listen up \u2013 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeextension.com\/games\/xbox-360\/castlevania_symphony_of_the_night\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Xbox Live Arcade version<\/a> of Konami&#8217;s legendary <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeextension.com\/games\/ps1\/castlevania_symphony_of_the_night\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Castlevania: Symphony of the Night<\/a><\/strong> has been statically recompiled by <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/birabittoh\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Marco Andronaco \/ birabittoh<\/a> (thanks, <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jdo683-zNXE\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Video Game Esoterica<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Built on the <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/rexglue\/rexglue-sdk\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">ReXGlue SDK<\/a>, this recompilation works on Windows and Linux and converts the Xbox 360 PowerPC xex file into native x86_64 code at build time, then wraps it with a small host runtime so the game &#8220;runs natively and can be modded like a PC port.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Empire Interactive Withdraws From &#8220;3DO Project&#8221; Due To &#8220;Likelihood Of Prolonged Legal Disputes&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Less than a week after announcing it acquired &#8220;<a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/empireinteractive_activity-7475284745669541889-phdg?utm_source=social_share_send&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop_web&amp;rcm=ACoAAC_hCSIBx0sAYv3BtVKK_iDRAwW1WifyzBM\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">the trademark and select intellectual property rights of The 3DO Company<\/a>,&#8221; Empire Interactive has now announced plans to &#8220;withdraw from the 3DO project.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The announcement was made in an email to Time Extension, with <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/empireinteractive_activity-7478327042069958656-Fd8O?utm_source=social_share_send&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop_web&amp;rcm=ACoAAC_hCSIBx0sAYv3BtVKK_iDRAwW1WifyzBM\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">a separate statement having since been posted on LinkedIn<\/a> stating that it is abandoning plans to enter &#8220;console production&#8221; and giving up on &#8220;the idea of remastering retro games.&#8221; Instead, Empire Interactive now states the company &#8220;will focus our efforts on developing our own next-generation games,&#8221; which will be &#8220;published under the Empire Interactive label.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Musical Treat Isn&#8217;t The Only Secret Hiding Inside Banjo Kazooie&#8217;s New Handheld Edition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It turns out a secret music player isn&#8217;t the only extra included in the new handheld release of Banjo-Kazooie.<\/p>\n<p>Fans have also discovered a new cheat menu, unlocked upon beating the game 100%, that lets you activate cheats without visiting the Treasure Trove Cove sandcastle.<\/p>\n<p>This lets you grant yourself infinite blue eggs, infinite feathers, and infinite air supply; gives you the ability to reset secret items (presumably the Swop &#8216;N Stop items); and also, interestingly, contains a new move for Kazooie called Breegull Boost.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bluesky-embed\" data-bluesky-uri=\"at:\/\/did:plc:sfxmvka4yak6yhxz6e7ctwh4\/app.bsky.feed.post\/3mpost4wpzk23\" data-bluesky-cid=\"bafyreib6br22qqjdpbnnsivldatgorzttqnjczt7feuoenbc7hgs7mbxqy\">\n<p lang=\"en\">There&#8217;s a new ability in the Evercade version of Banjo-Kazooie. Collection Hides A Never-Before-Ported Konami Shoot &#8216;Em Up<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The M2-developed Ganbare Goemon collection, <strong>Ganbare Goemon!<\/strong> <strong>Daishuugou<\/strong> is out today in Japan, bringing 13 games from Konami&#8217;s popular series to Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Steam.<\/p>\n<p>But as if that wasn&#8217;t enough to make us all jealous of Japanese players who are able to get their hands on the collection with ease, it appears there&#8217;s also a rather fascinating bonus game included in the package, too, in the form of Konami&#8217;s 1991 Famicom-exclusive shoot &#8217;em up <strong>Crisis Force<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Sony&#8217;s recent confirmation that it is <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pushsquare.com\/news\/2026\/07\/playstation-consoles-to-stop-getting-disc-based-physical-releases-in-2028\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">abandoning physical media on PS5 and future consoles<\/a> has sent shockwaves through the industry \u2013 but for some, the shift to a digital-only landscape is long overdue.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2013, Microsoft was forced to perform an embarrassing U-turn with its Xbox One console, following the announcement of DRM policies that would have prevented second-hand sales and marked a big step towards an all-digital distribution model.<\/p>\n<p>I spoke to Codemasters co-founder David Darling for <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gamesindustry.biz\/physical-media-is-like-having-a-dead-body-handcuffed-to-xbox-one\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">GamesIndustry.biz<\/a> shortly after the kerfuffle 13 years ago, and he was of the opinion that Microsoft had made a mistake in bowing to consumer and media pressure.<\/p>\n<p>I Was Already Excited About Truxton Extreme, But Playing It On A Next-Gen Cinema Screen Is Something Else<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s fair to say that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeextension.com\/games\/nintendo-switch-2\/truxton-extreme\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Truxton Extreme<\/a> has held my attention ever since it was first revealed.<\/p>\n<p>The latest instalment in a series which started life in arcades all the way back in 1989, the game \u2013 which is helmed by Masahiro Yuge, former Toaplan staffer and the driving force (and composer) behind the entire series \u2013 stays true to the core of <strong>Truxton<\/strong> (also known as <strong>Tatsujin<\/strong>) and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeextension.com\/games\/arcade\/truxton_2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">1992 sequel<\/a> while ramping up the challenge and offering a 2026 lick of paint.<\/p>\n<p>The game launches later this month, and with that in mind, I was invited to attend a preview event in nearby Nottingham \u2013 a hands-on session with a key difference: I&#8217;d be playing the game on a <a class=\"external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.myvue.com\/explore\/epic\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">massive &#8216;Epic&#8217;
