Paul Martinka<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe feels-like temperature is going to be more like 106,\u201d Lautenbacher said. \u201cBut luckily, the heat is just for today, and we will go down to 86 tomorrow, which is back towards our average.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/23\/us-news\/nearly-100-million-under-life-threatening-heat-dome-alerts-from-chicago-to-new-orleans\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">heat and high-pressure system<\/a> has already scorched the middle of the country \u2014 and is now bringing the threat of severe weather and storms to the East Coast.<\/p>\n<p>Rain will start falling in the area early this afternoon with strong thunderstorms forming around 4 to 6 p.m. when people are driving home from work, Lautenbacher said.<\/p>\n<p>A man sunbathes at the Hudson River on June 25, 2025. ZUMAPRESS.com<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cmain threat\u201d from these storms is wind gusts, which could reach 59 mph, potentially knocking down tree limbs or causing power outages, she said. No hail or tornadoes are expected.<\/p>\n<p>Intense heat and strong storms \u201cgo hand in hand together,\u201d she said, although they tend to be more scattered in these conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Radar shows how high temperatures will be across the tri-state area. @NWSNewYorkNY\/X<\/p>\n<p>Average temperatures, around 85 degrees this time of year, are expected to return Saturday and Sunday before climbing back into the 90s later next week.<\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for New York City on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese conditions are dangerous to health.
