While there is no chance of seeing the original quartet in action, the next best thing, Revisiting Creedence, will perform at Humphrey\u2019s Concerts by the Bay on July 10. Led by Dan McGuinness (lead vocals) and Kurt Griffey (lead guitar), two musicians who performed with original CCR members Stu Cook (bass) and Doug Clifford (drums), attendees will be treated to a show sure to include all of Creedence\u2019s biggest hits, including \u201cBorn on the Bayou,\u201d \u201cDown On The Corner,\u201d and \u201cProud Mary.<\/p>\n<p>Punk-rock pioneers, The Executives, hit up the Tower Bar<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pioneering San Diego punk band, The Executives, plays at the Tower Bar on July 10. Formed in 1978, The Executives only released one EP during their initial run, 1978\u2019s \u201cJetset,\u201d but their influence has been huge, with a legion of bands following in their wake, and original copies of said recordings now worth around $500. Although it\u2019s been five decades since the then-teen band started playing local stages with their angular, spiky tunes, The Executives still deliver an energetic show well worth catching for punk fans of all stripes. Oakland combo, the Street Eaters, and locals, Hooch open the proceedings.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Executives<\/strong>: Friday, July 10 at <a href=\"http:\/\/thetowerbar.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Tower Bar<\/a>, 4757 University Avenue, 8 p.m.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Jazz saxophonist Charles McPherson plays Lou Lou\u2019s<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saxophonist, Charles McPherson stops in at Lou Lou\u2019s on July 10 for two shows. He\u2019s released more than two dozen acclaimed albums to date, most recently 2024\u2019s \u201cReverence,\u201d but he\u2019s also well respected for his work with a long list of musical luminaries in his storied career. Highlights include albums with the likes of trumpeter Art Farmer and vibraphonist Lionel Hampton, as well as time spent as a sideman with Charles Mingus across 16 albums. Anyone who appreciates jazz will enjoy these intimate concert performances from a jazz legend.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Charles McPherson Quintet<\/strong>: Friday, July 10 at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loulousclub.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lou Lou\u2019s<\/a>, 2223 El Cajon Boulevard. 7 &amp; 10 p.m. $54 and up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One of those nights with Eagles cover bang, The Long Run<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eagles fans won\u2019t want to miss an appearance from tribute band, The Long Run, on July 10, as part of the annual Summer Concert Series at Point Loma Park. The band does a great job of reproducing the Eagles\u2019 signature country-rock sound, with excellent twin guitar work and vocal harmonies. The \u201cEagles Greatest Hits\u201d is the biggest-selling album of all-time, currently sitting at 40 million copies sold, so the Long Run\u2019s set is basically one crowd pleaser after another, including the likes of \u201cHotel California,\u201d One of These Nights,\u201d and \u201cNew Kid In Town,\u201d plus a handful of the various band members\u2019 solo hits.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The Long Run<\/strong>: Friday, July 10 at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pointlomasummerconcerts.org\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Point Loma Park<\/a>, 1049 Catalina Blvd. 5:30 \u2013 7:30 p.m. Free.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A special tribute to a special person. Michael Oletta<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On July 11, Dizzy\u2019s will host a special tribute to photographer and jazz bassist Michael Oletta, who passed away earlier this year. Oletta was known to local jazz listeners as the founder of The Now Time Quartet, also featuring pianist Adam Wolff, violinist Alicia Previn, and drummer Jeff Dalrymple, but it\u2019s with his camera that he made his greatest impact. In 2021, he released a book, \u201cJazz In The Moment,\u201d collecting images from his 40 years of attending concerts, a wonderful showcase for the gifted photographer. While there is no music planned at this event, there will be a display of Oletta\u2019s photos, and numerous music luminaries will be on hand offering remembrances. This is a nice opportunity to say goodbye to one of San Diego\u2019s biggest jazz supporters.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Remembering Michael Oletta<\/strong>: Saturday, July 11 at <a href=\"https:\/\/dizzysjazz.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dizzy\u2019s<\/a> at Arias Hall, 1717 Morena Blvd. 2 p.m.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Definitely\u2026not Maybe<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More and more venues are offering daytime rock \u2018n\u2019 roll shows, including The Holding Company, who feature Orange County-based Oasis tribute band, Live Forever, on July 11. The group does a good job of recreating the sound and attitude of their namesake group, while turning out solid versions of sing-along favorites such as \u201cLive Forever\u201d and \u201cDon\u2019t Look Back In Anger.\u201d As witnessed by their recent sold-out world tour, Oasis remains wildly popular thirty years after their heyday, with new generations of fans discovering their music. This show includes an opening set from Stone Temple Pilots tribute group, Wicked Garden.<\/p>\n<p>Just beat it at the Belly Up<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On July 11, The Belly Up Tavern will be the site of the 15th Annual Hootenanny featuring The Beat Farmers and Friends. Founded in 1983, headliners The Beat Farmers are one of the finest bands to ever call San Diego home, with a brand of barroom rock \u2018n\u2019 roll that is still as potent as ever. Anyone who has seen their recent shows can attest to the fact that, after more than four decades on the road, frontmen and guitarists Jerry Raney and Joey Harris are at the peak of their powers. This year\u2019s musical friends include Sara Petite and Evans Kontopuls, with the evening rounded out by a bonus set from Harris and his band, the Mentals.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>15th Annual Hootenanny Feat. The Beat Farmers and Friends<\/strong>: Saturday, July 11 at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellyup.com\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Belly Up Tavern<\/a>, 143 S. Cedros Avenue. 5 p.m. &amp; 8 p.m. $33 and up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Aye, aye, captain<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yacht Rock\u2019s popularity continues unabated. The annual Concerts on the Green music series at Kate Sessions Park kicks off on July 12 with a late afternoon performance from nine-piece yacht rock combo, Captain\u2019s Orders. Complete with crisp white uniforms and obligatory captain\u2019s hats, fans of seventies and early 80\u2019s era pop and disco will love the bands versions of Top 40 favorites from the likes of Christopher Cross, Boz Scaggs and George Benson, highlighted by an excellent horn section.<\/p>\n<p>Detroit Underground goes sea level<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of San Diego\u2019s most picturesque spots, Scripps Park, hosts the first show of the Concerts by the Sea music series on July 12, featuring long-running favorites Detroit Underground. Featuring singer Stellita Marie, the band plays a mix of Motown, soul, disco and R&amp;B hits, excelling at high octane versions of songs ranging from Stevie Wonder and Earth, Wind &amp; Fire to Bruno Mars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to the audience joining in on vocals, you can expect a lot of fun dancing on the grass in front of the stage.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Detroit Underground<\/strong>: Sunday, July 12 at <a href=\"https:\/\/kiwanisclublajolla.org\/event\/concerts-by-the-sea\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Scripps Park<\/a>, 1133 Coast Blvd. 3:30 \u2013 5:30 p.m. Free.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mohama Saz, you listen<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Psychedelic rock band Mohama Saz returns to The Casbah on July 16. Based in Madrid, the band delivers a unique kaleidoscope of sound that touches on traditional Middle Eastern sounds, freeform jazz, hypnotic beats and psychedelia.\u00a0 Currently touring in support of their latest album, \u201cVen Al Fuego,\u201d which captures the band in concert, Mohama Saz\u2019s music is intense and immersive.
