He started 13 games in his first season at the school, throwing for 2,705 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also ran for 700 yards and 11 touchdowns.

“We’re one of a few teams in the country that has the same offensive/defensive/special teams coordinator and the same starting quarterback coming back,” Houston head coach Willie Fritz said during his Tuesday appearance at Big 12 media days. “I think there’s maybe 11 schools like that in the country. If you’ve got that, it’s a really good building block for your program.”

At Houston, Weigman has the opportunity to flourish in a consistent system. The former Texas A&M quarterback battled injuries early in his collegiate career, which forced him to miss out on valuable playing time. Now, he’ll look to reach another level while working with offensive coordinator Slade Nagle.

“I’m able to do everything in the offseason, which is a nice feeling. It’s satisfying being able to be there with my brothers, going through some tough workouts and coming out the other side a better football player,” Weigman said. “Going through things like that, it only prepares you for the season. I’ll be ready to go this year, and I’m excited for what we’re about to do.”

Based on his comments in Frisco, Fritz isn’t only excited about the present for Houston’s quarterback position. This offseason, the team also welcomed five-star recruit Keisean Henderson to its roster.

When Weigman was a high schooler, he was also one of the top quarterback recruits in his class. Fritz said he plans on making the most of Henderson’s dual-threat abilities when a game calls for them.

“What’s been really neat is, I’ve never had two five-star quarterbacks before any place I’ve ever been. I’ve never had one, much less two,” Fritz said. “Those guys are both so unselfish. Everybody keeps asking me what kind of package we’re going to run with Keisean. We’re going to run our total package with him.”

FRISCO — On Tuesday morning, Brett Yormark described the Big 12 as the “conference of quarterbacks,” touting the conference’s…

[5130
10768,4345,358,290508,3187
post-919538","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-houston","tag-brief","tag-houston","tag-texas","tag-tp-colleges","tag-tx
["GET
