LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) \u2014 Dozens of professional golfers are back in Louisville this week for the ISCO Championship at Hurstbourne Country Club, a tournament that quickly became a local favorite after its debut last year.<\/p>\n
As players took part in practice rounds Tuesday, families lined up for a closer look \u2014 and some young golfers got their own chance to swing clubs during a youth golf clinic held ahead of the tournament.<\/p>\n
“This is so cool to come on up and just get a little viewing time with the pros,” said Sarah Kate Landry, who attended with Melody Kimball and their sons.<\/p>\n
Kimball said her son began playing golf about a year ago and still talks about attending the event last summer.<\/p>\n
“One of his first experiences was coming to this last year,” she said.<\/p>\n
Organizers said the tournament has a smaller, hometown feel than major events such as the PGA Championship, held at nearby Valhalla Golf Club in 2024, but still delivers a significant boost to the local economy \u2014 nearly $20 million.<\/p>\n
“Having a yearly stop on the PGA Tour is fantastic for our city,” said Jimmy Kirchdorfer, chairman and CEO of ISCO Industries.<\/p>\n
For the kids who attended Tuesday’s clinic, the week is about more than watching from the ropes. Some will have the opportunity later in the tournament to caddie alongside players.<\/p>\n
“It’s really exciting,” Landry said. “We love golf at our house, so just getting to actually be a part of something … it’s so cool to be a part of the ISCO Championship.”<\/p>\n
The ISCO Championship begins Thursday and runs through Sunday at Hurstbourne Country Club.<\/p>\n
