{"id":919880,"date":"2026-07-08T02:17:14","date_gmt":"2026-07-08T02:17:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/919880\/"},"modified":"2026-07-08T02:17:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-08T02:17:14","slug":"measles-outbreak-at-arizona-immigration-detention-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/919880\/","title":{"rendered":"Measles outbreak at Arizona immigration detention center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So far this year there have been 108 confirmed measles cases in Arizona, including 16 cases in Pinal County \u2014 including the seven cases just reported in ICE detention facilities \u2014 and two cases in Pima County, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azdhs.gov\/preparedness\/epidemiology-disease-control\/measles\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">measles website<\/a>.\u00a0Of the 330 confirmed measles cases in Arizona since the start of 2025, 96% of the infected individuals were unvaccinated, the agency said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Pinal County Public Health Services recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinal.gov\/m\/newsflash\/home\/detail\/2467\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">warned<\/a> the public of potential measles exposures for those who visited a Wendy\u2019s in Coolidge on June 25, when a traveler with measles passed through the restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>Even though the disease was declared eliminated in the U.S. in 2000, measles cases have been surging across the U.S. as vaccination rates have declined, especially since the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, the U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/publichealth.jhu.edu\/ivac\/2025\/us-measles-cases-hit-highest-level-since-declared-eliminated-in-2000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">recorded<\/a> 2,268 measles cases, the highest number of infections in 30 years. This year is on track to soon surpass last year&#8217;s figure, with 2,184 measles cases already confirmed in 2026, according to Johns Hopkins University&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/publichealth.jhu.edu\/ivac\/resources\/us-measles-tracker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Measles Tracker<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Florence detainees with measles are being monitored to prevent spread of the highly contagious disease, and all detainees are receiving &#8220;proper medical care,&#8221; the DHS statement said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is a longstanding practice to provide comprehensive medical care \u2014 including access to vaccines,&#8221; the statement said. &#8220;This includes medical, dental, and mental health services as available, and access to medical appointments and 24-hour emergency care.
