One of the most senior officers in the ranks of Western Australia’s police force has been charged with stalking and illegally accessing a computer system.<\/p>\n

Assistant Commissioner Gailene Hamilton was stood down from the force last month after allegations of misconduct.<\/p>\n

Police confirmed on Friday afternoon she was facing four counts of unlawfully using a computer system and one of stalking, and was due in a Perth court next month.<\/p>\n

She was recently appointed to the role of Assistant Police Commissioner but was stood down while police conducted an internal investigation into allegations she had harassed a fellow officer.<\/p>\n

Last month the matter was referred to the Corruption and Crime Commission.<\/p>\n

In June, WA Police Commissioner Col Blanch said the investigations involved allegations of \u201cpersistent messages\u201d between Ms Hamilton and another senior officer.<\/p>\n

Before becoming assistant commissioner, Ms Hamilton had been an acting superintendent in WA’s Pilbara region.<\/p>\n

She remains stood down from the force, and police said they would be making no further comment on the matter.<\/p>\n
