Drivers who do not move their cars for street cleaning will soon see a large sticker on their vehicle.<\/p>\n
The City Council this month passed a bill restoring the Department of Sanitation\u2019s ability to use stickers as part of enforcement for alternate side parking violations. The practice was banned in 2012 following complaints that the stickers were too difficult to remove.<\/p>\n
Sanitation Commissioner Gregory Anderson joined NY1 anchor Shannan Ferry on \u201cNews All Day\u201d to explain why he believes now is the right time to bring the stickers back.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery week, 500,000 cars fail to move for alternate side parking,\u201d Anderson said. \u201cThat means 3,000 miles of streets that we can\u2019t clean.\u201d<\/p>\n
Anderson says the new stickers will be easier to remove.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur goal is not to wreck anyone\u2019s car or ruin their day,\u201d he added. \u201cIt\u2019s really to show New Yorkers the reason that we can\u2019t clean the street.”<\/p>\n
