LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville Kroger is among roughly 60 stores around the country that will close in the next year and a half.<\/p>\n
A Kroger spokesman confirmed the news to WDRB on Monday.<\/p>\n
“Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to close South Third Street store. While we are leaving this location, we will offer each impacted associate the opportunity to transfer to a new location. This closure is part of a larger company-wide decision to run more efficiently and ensure the long-term health of our business.”<\/p>\n
The Kroger on South Third Street serves the Wilder Park neighborhood.<\/p>\n
The grocery store chain announced the planned closings in its first quarter earnings report on June 20. The company said it expected to see a modest financial benefit as a result of the closures.<\/p>\n
WDRB did ask the Kroger spokesperson in Louisville about any additional closures in our area. Our inquiry was answered with “we do not have details to share at this time.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
The company\u00a0has not released a complete list of which stores are closing nationwide.<\/p>\n
Kroger said employees at the affected stores will be offered positions at other locations.<\/p>\n
