{"id":923268,"date":"2026-07-09T13:42:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T13:42:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/923268\/"},"modified":"2026-07-09T13:42:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T13:42:13","slug":"scary-wimbledon-scene-as-doubles-player-demi-schuurs-crashes-into-ball-girl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/923268\/","title":{"rendered":"Scary Wimbledon scene as doubles player Demi Schuurs crashes into ball girl"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Wimbledon player had an ugly crash during a women\u2019s doubles quarterfinal Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>However, it wasn\u2019t the usual slip on the grass that is so often seen throughout the Grand Slam tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Rather, Demi Schuurs ran into a ball girl while chasing down a ball. <\/p>\n<p>Schuurs, alongside partner Ellen Perez, was serving 3-3 in the first set while facing Shuko Aoyama and Liang En-shuo.<\/p>\n<p>With a deep shot to the baseline from the opposing pair, Schuurs desperately ran to the back of the court to attempt to return the ball with a tough backhand swing.<\/p>\n<p>In doing so, she ran into a ball girl, who was standing in her usual position at the very back of the court.<\/p>\n<p>Demi Schuurs crashes into a ballgirl during a women\u2019s doubles quarterfinal match on Wednesday at Wimbledon. X @ivabianconero<\/p>\n<p>As Schuurs took her swing, the ball girl ducked and the ball bounced off the back wall and out of play.<\/p>\n<p>The two fell to the ground and the point went to Aoyama and En-shuo.<\/p>\n<p>Immediately following the collision, Schuurs needed medical attention and a physio went over to her bench to check her arm and knee during the mid-match medical timeout.<\/p>\n<p>The Wimbledon ball girl ducks her head as Demi Schuurs attempts to do a backhand swing in a women\u2019s doubles quarterfinal match. X @ivabianconero<\/p>\n<p>The ball girl didn\u2019t appear to be hurt in the aftermath and Schurrs later gave her a high-five following the collision.<\/p>\n<p>Schurrs went on to post a video of the incident to her Instagram story with two sad emojis. <\/p>\n<p>Demi Schuurs and a Wimbledon ballgirl fall to the ground after colliding while trying to play a deep ball during a women\u2019s doubles quarterfinal on Wednesday. X @ivabianconero<\/p>\n<p>Schuurs was able to continue to match and she and Perez won the next point and held their serve.<\/p>\n<p>However, the two ultimately lost 6-4, 6-4 to end their Wimbledon run.<\/p>\n<p>Schuurs, who is a multi-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist and ranks No. 23 among women\u2019s doubles players, reached the semifinals in Australia in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Her career-high ranking was No. 7 in 2018.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Wimbledon player had an ugly crash during a women\u2019s doubles quarterfinal Wednesday.
