{"id":924689,"date":"2026-07-10T03:59:19","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T03:59:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/924689\/"},"modified":"2026-07-10T03:59:19","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T03:59:19","slug":"mom-from-scarsdale-ny-struggled-with-troubled-son-who-allegedly-killed-her","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/924689\/","title":{"rendered":"Mom from Scarsdale, NY struggled with troubled son who allegedly killed her"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A beloved Scarsdale community advocate worried about her troubled and socially awkward son for years \u2014 until he allegedly <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/08\/us-news\/scarsdale-26-year-old-charged-with-stabbing-and-killing-mom-at-her-home-nyc-suburbs-first-homicide-in-a-decade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">snapped and stabbed her<\/a> to death in her own home, a family friend told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Marian Green, 71, struggled for years to find a productive path for her 26-year-old son, Chester Green, encouraging him to pursue his talent for blacksmithing and taking him along to political and community meetings to spark his interest, close pal Nancy Meyers Silverman said Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>It was the first murder in the Westchester County suburb \u2014 long one of America\u2019s wealthiest communities \u2014 in more than a decade.<\/p>\n<p>Chester Green 26, is charged with beating and stabbing his mother to death in her Scarsdale home. snapchat\/charredemotions<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was worried about her son, she really was,\u201d said Silverman, 57. \u201cShe wanted him to be a productive part of society, and she was concerned because I know her husband passed away a couple of years ago, and she just wanted Chester to thrive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was never a meeting where we didn\u2019t discuss Chester, or she didn\u2019t bring up wanting the best for him,\u201d she added. \u201cHe did have some sort of condition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Police said Marian Green was beaten and stabbed to death in her Scarsdale home bertween July 5 and July 7. Ribeiro for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>Her efforts ended in tragedy, when police said Chester allegedly beat and stabbed his mother to death inside her $2.5 million home in the wealthy Westchester County suburb over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westchesterda.net\/july-2026\/scarsdale-man-charged-with-killing-71-year-old-mother-at-fox-meadow-home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Westchester prosecutors said<\/a> he allegedly killed his mom between July 5 and 7, and was arraigned on a second-degree murder charge on Wednesday and ordered held without bail.<\/p>\n<p>The first images of the accused killer show him shirtless, with long brown hair and piercing eyes.<\/p>\n<p>A former classmate of Chester said as soon as she heard someone was killed in the house, they immediately believed the 26-year-old was behind it \u2014 since he was known as an odd, mean and violent kid.<\/p>\n<p>However, Silverman was less suspicious. She said her friend\u2019s son was always a bit off, attending special education classes in school and never quite fitting in with others in the upscale community \u2014 but never showed signs of violence.<\/p>\n<p>The Scarsdale house where Marian Green was found beaten and stabbed to death over the weekend. Kyle Mazza\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know exactly what you know his diagnosis was, but nothing that would point to this situation,\u201d she said. \u201cMaybe he was a little slow developing, but there was nothing that would point to this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a health freak a little bit \u2013 just really into his health and not eating bad food or drinking from plastic water bottles,\u201d Silverman added. \u201cHe possibly dabbled with drugs, I don\u2019t know how much or with what. I know he was thinking at one point of opening a cannabis store. He was off the beaten track, not a mainstream Scarsdale kid at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said Chester was Marian Green\u2019s only child and the two lived alone since his father died years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Family friend Nancy Meyers Silverman said Marian Green struggled with her troubled son for years. snapchat\/charredemotions<\/p>\n<p>Marian was a staunch advocate for disabled people and special needs children, and acted as the chair of the village\u2019s Advisory Council for People with Disabilities, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lohud.com\/story\/news\/crime\/2026\/07\/08\/marian-green-scarsdale-ny-community-leader-found-dead-in-her-home\/90845115007\/?gnt-cfr=1&amp;gca-cat=p&amp;gca-uir=true&amp;gca-epti=z116958p119750l11xx50c119750e1148xxv116958d--51--b--51--&amp;gca-ft=49&amp;gca-ds=sophi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Lohud reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Silverman said she tried to include him in her social circles, but it didn\u2019t take.<\/p>\n<p>Chester\u2019s former elementary and middle school classmate told The Post he was \u201cknown to be loud and always screaming and saying mean things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chester Green was \u201cnot a mainstream Scarsdale kid at all,\u201d family friend Nancy Meyers Silverman said. Obtained by NY Post<\/p>\n<p>In one instance, Chester carpooled with the classmate and her 6-year-old sister to ice skating lessons and smacked the youngest because she was \u201cbeing loud,\u201d she recalled.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe obviously stopped carpooling with him then,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy mom told me also in elementary school because I don\u2019t remember this was so long ago, but she told me that I came home crying because he told me he was gonna murder my whole family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marian Green was allegedly killed by her son. Scarsdale.org<\/p>\n<p>The former classmate described Chester as an \u201coff and weird\u201d kid who frequently repelled people in school because he was scary.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe thing with Chester, we all knew he was very off and weird, and just didn\u2019t act right. It honestly was sad. I feel like we kind of tried to ignore him,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we first saw in the news that a woman had been found dead in that house, we all assumed it was him because he\u2019s always been insane,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Police on the scene of a fatal stabbing in Scarsdale.
