{"id":925973,"date":"2026-07-10T17:40:29","date_gmt":"2026-07-10T17:40:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/925973\/"},"modified":"2026-07-10T17:40:29","modified_gmt":"2026-07-10T17:40:29","slug":"liv-golf-ceo-scott-oneil-cites-billions-in-net-operating-losses-as-one-benefit-to-keeping-tour-alive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/925973\/","title":{"rendered":"LIV Golf CEO Scott O&#8217;Neil cites &#8216;billions&#8217; in net operating losses as one benefit to keeping tour alive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Scott O\u2019Neil is pitching hard the investment opportunities with LIV Golf.<\/p>\n<p>The league\u2019s CEO took his pitch to Sportico on Thursday, citing one of the several benefits of investing in LIV Golf as the tax opportunities from net operating losses \u201cin the billions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have net operating losses that are very substantial in the billions,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Sportico\/status\/2075300398043172874\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">O\u2019Neil said<\/a>. \u201cIf you do business in the United States, if you do business in the U.K., you have an unbelievable tax opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">LIV Golf is seeking up to $350 million to keep their lights on after Saudi Arabia&#8217;s PIF pulled its funding.<\/p>\n<p>CEO Scott O&#8217;Neil provided Sportico with why you should invest:<\/p>\n<p>\u26f3 Business development opportunities <br \/>\u26f3 Golf is global<br \/>\u26f3 Join a multi-billion dollar brand<br \/>\u26f3 Net\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/v30rviMpjN\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/v30rviMpjN<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sportico (@Sportico) <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Sportico\/status\/2075300398043172874?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow\">July 9, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>O\u2019Neil has been pulling for LIV Golf since its primary backer, Saudi Arabia\u2019s Public Investment Fund (PIF), decided in April to pull its funding after the 2026 season.<\/p>\n<p>He also cited six other reasons to back his league in this time of scrambling, including the global reach of the sport, the business development opportunities and franchise value in the teams, stars, and equity partners that represent the league, such as Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Cam Smith.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sports.yahoo.com\/articles\/liv-golf-signals-looming-layoffs-143735673.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Sportico previously reported<\/a> LIV is seeking somewhere in the range of $250 million-$350 million to keep the league going after 2026.<\/p>\n<p>DeChambeau has also been <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/27\/sports\/bryson-dechambeau-giving-it-all-he-can-to-help-liv-golf-survive\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">giving everything he can<\/a> to the league, yet others including Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed have started the process to return to the PGA Tour.<\/p>\n<p>LIV Golf informed its employees in both the U.S. and U.K. on Wednesday that <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/08\/sports\/liv-golf-facing-potential-layoffs-as-league-sorts-out-post-pif-existence\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">layoffs could be on the table<\/a> as the league attempts to try to stay alive in a world without the PIF.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39943384\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/GettyImages-2279701644.jpg\" alt=\"LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil during day four of LIV Golf Andalucia at Real Club Valderrama on June 7, 2026 in Cadiz, Spain.\" class=\"wp-image-39943384\"  \/>LIV Golf CEO Scott O\u2019Neil during day four of LIV Golf Andalucia at Real Club Valderrama on June 7, 2026 in Cadiz, Spain. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Reports indicated that the league will be filing a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice, which is a legal requirement that forces businesses with over 100 employees to allow at least 60 days notice of potential layoffs.
