Scott O\u2019Neil is pitching hard the investment opportunities with LIV Golf.<\/p>\n

The league\u2019s CEO took his pitch to Sportico on Thursday, citing one of the several benefits of investing in LIV Golf as the tax opportunities from net operating losses \u201cin the billions.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have net operating losses that are very substantial in the billions,\u201d O\u2019Neil said<\/a>. \u201cIf you do business in the United States, if you do business in the U.K., you have an unbelievable tax opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

LIV Golf is seeking up to $350 million to keep their lights on after Saudi Arabia’s PIF pulled its funding.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Neil has been pulling for LIV Golf since its primary backer, Saudi Arabia\u2019s Public Investment Fund (PIF), decided in April to pull its funding after the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

He also cited six other reasons to back his league in this time of scrambling, including the global reach of the sport, the business development opportunities and franchise value in the teams, stars, and equity partners that represent the league, such as Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, and Cam Smith.<\/p>\n

Sportico previously reported<\/a> LIV is seeking somewhere in the range of $250 million-$350 million to keep the league going after 2026.<\/p>\n

DeChambeau has also been giving everything he can<\/a> to the league, yet others including Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed have started the process to return to the PGA Tour.<\/p>\n

LIV Golf informed its employees in both the U.S. and U.K. on Wednesday that layoffs could be on the table<\/a> as the league attempts to try to stay alive in a world without the PIF.<\/p>\n

Reports indicated that the league will be filing a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice, which is a legal requirement that forces businesses with over 100 employees to allow at least 60 days notice of potential layoffs. The U.K. has a similar legal requirement in place. <\/p>\n

In June, it was reported the funding would run out sooner than expected<\/a> and a high-ranking exec cited that \u201cever remaining tournament is on the fence\u201d as the rebel league is set for four more events on its schedule, starting with LIV Golf U.K. from July 23-26.<\/p>\n

Following that, there are three events slated to happen in the U.S., including a tournament at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in August.<\/p>\n

\u201cI truly don\u2019t think anyone knows,\u201d the executive said at the time. \u201cLIV Golf doesn\u2019t know if or when the PIF will shut off the spigot.\u201d<\/p>\n
