{"id":92639,"date":"2025-07-25T23:45:18","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T23:45:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/92639\/"},"modified":"2025-07-25T23:45:18","modified_gmt":"2025-07-25T23:45:18","slug":"lawmakers-raise-concerns-as-delta-rolls-out-flight-pricing-using-artificial-intelligence-wsb-tv-channel-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/92639\/","title":{"rendered":"Lawmakers raise concerns as Delta rolls out flight pricing using artificial intelligence \u2013 WSB-TV Channel 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">ATLANTA \u2014 Atlanta-based Delta airlines said it expects 20% of its ticket prices to be determine by artificial intelligence by the end of the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">That has privacy experts and lawmakers concerned about what that actually means.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Delta told <b>Channel 2 consumer investigator Justin Gray<\/b> that the company is not using personal information for ticket prices.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">\u201cToday we\u2019re about 3% of domestic, and that\u2019s our goal, is to have about 20% by the end of the year,\u201d Delta\u2019s president said during a recent investor call. \u201cWe like what we see, we like it a lot, and we\u2019re continuing to roll it out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">The call has drawn big concerns about what the use of artificial intelligence for airline tickets really means.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">A group of U.S. Senators sent a letter to Delta demanding answers, asking if the AI pricing means personalized pricing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">U.S. Sen. Mark Warner is concerned your personal information could be used to set your ticket price.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">\u201cIt means that if the AI tool knows that you\u2019ve had a death in the family or knows that you have a relative in a disaster-stricken area and you have to go there, they can target you and jack up the price,\u201d Warner said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\"><b>TRENDING STORIES:<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">But Delta is adamant that is not what they are doing with AI pricing, telling <b>Channel 2 Action News<\/b> in a statement:<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">\u201cThere is no fare product Delta has ever used, is testing, or plans to use that targets customers with individualized offers based on personal information or otherwise. A variety of market forces drive the dynamic pricing model that\u2019s been used in the global industry for decades, with new tech simply streamlining this process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t see how that fits with what they have said they are going to do. And also, with the profits that they are anticipating getting from this,\u201d said Georgia Sloven, a data privacy advocate with the Center for Democracy and Technology.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Sloven points to Delta\u2019s own public statements on this, like at another investor presentation last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">\u201cWe will have a price that\u2019s available on that flight, on that time to you, the individual, not a machine that\u2019s doing an accept reject and a static price grid,\u201d Delta said at the time. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">\u201cThis is something new. They\u2019ve said it\u2019s new. They\u2019ve set it\u2019s going to change their profit outlook.
