Body-camera footage from Dallas police<\/a> shows a heated confrontation last week between an officer and members of Egypt\u2019s national soccer team that drew international attention<\/a> after a bystander\u2019s video attracted millions of views.<\/p>\n The brief exchange at the Westin in downtown Dallas on July 2 prompted criticism of one of the officer\u2019s actions, including from a Dallas City Council member, while police union leaders defended him. Police later said soccer team leaders met with a department deputy chief to discuss the situation and the matter was resolved.<\/p>\n The newly released footage, provided to The Dallas Morning News in response to an open-record request, offers a fuller view of the episode, showing how quickly the credentialing dispute became contentious\u00a0before both sides later moved to smooth it over.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n The video begins with two officers standing in the hotel lobby before walking toward Egypt team manager Ibrahim Hassan, player Mahmoud Hassan, commonly known as Tr\u00e9z\u00e9guet, and other men wearing shirts marked \u201cEgypt.\u201d<\/p>\n Australia goalkeeper Patrick Beach (18) blocks a cross intended for Egypt midfielder Mahmoud Hassan Tr\u00e9z\u00e9guet (7) during the second half of FIFA World Cup Round of 32 match, on Friday, July 3, 2026 , at Dallas Stadium in Arlington.<\/p>\n Shafkat Anowar\/The Dallas Morning News<\/p>\n One officer places a hand on the team manager\u2019s chest and pulls him back before asking, \u201cWhere are your credentials?\u201d A man wearing an Egypt shirt, who also does not appear to be displaying credentials, then steps between them, setting off shoves and profanity.<\/p>\n \u201cBack off, back off, back off,\u201d the officer yells.<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n \u201cThis is the manager, this is the manager,\u201d someone off camera says.<\/p>\n More yelling and shoving ensues. At one point, the officer who first approached the team manager then yells at the other man. \u201cWe need your credentials around your neck. We don\u2019t know who you are.\u201d<\/p>\n The officer then pulls out and opens his handcuffs. As several men plead with him, the second officer places a hand on his chest and says, \u201cIt\u2019s OK. Relax. It\u2019s OK.\u201d<\/p>\n The two officers again tell members of the group that they must display credentials as Ibrahim Hassan and the other man in the Egypt shirt leave the area. Another person with the team then approaches the second officer and apologizes.<\/p>\n Police on Wednesday posted a letter online from\u00a0Cherif Mokhtar, Egypt\u2019s consul general in Houston, thanking Dallas police Chief Daniel Comeaux and the department for their \u201csupport, cooperation and professionalism.\u201d<\/p>\n Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n Mokhtar\u2019s letter did not directly address the confrontation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
