was Tommy Robinson<\/a>, a fringe anti-Islam activist with a long criminal record. Ms Hanson called him \u201cbrave\u201d, among other compliments, and walked the streets of his hometown Luton alongside him.<\/p>\nNow she has also sat down for an interview with former British prime minister Liz Truss, who has tacked hard to the right in the years since her chaotic time in the top job.<\/p>\n
Ms Truss was prime minister from September 6, 2022 until October 25, a period of just 49 days, before she was forced to resign by her own Conservative Party.<\/p>\n
She currently hosts a podcast called The Liz Truss Show.<\/p>\n
One of Ms Truss\u2019s fixations is an entity she calls \u201cthe blob\u201d. That\u2019s her term for the British public service, as well as some of the country\u2019s institutions, which she believes are slanted to the progressive side of politics and stymie the will and interests of the people.<\/p>\n
She blames the Bank of England, in large part, for the disastrous end of her career.<\/p>\n
The theory of the case is that even if a government is brave enough to oppose left-wing ideas like open borders or net zero, \u201cthe blob\u201d will sabotage its efforts to make progress.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got some of them sitting on the floor of parliament,\u201d Ms Hanson said when Ms Truss brought up the blog during their chat.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re called the Greenies, and a couple of the independents.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow about we just round them all up and give them an island or somewhere? And say, \u2018Here, go and do what you want to do over there. Leave us alone.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Truss laughed and replied: \u201cDidn\u2019t we try that with Australia in the first place?\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Hanson, apart from her media tour is in Britain to attend its iteration of the (originally American) Conservative Political Action Conference, used the interview to repeat her warning from recent weeks that Australia is following Britain into decline.<\/p>\n
She believes Britain has allowed itself to be overwhelmed by immigrants, and that Islam has too great an influence there.<\/p>\n
Asked which country was worse off, she replied: \u201cBritain. But we\u2019re not that far behind you.\u201d<\/p>\n
As the interview turned to One Nation\u2019s policy agenda, Ms Hanson said she wanted a major reduction in the federal bureaucracy.<\/p>\n
She claimed Australia had 216,000 public servants, including an increase of 50,000 under the current government \u2013 those numbers are roughly accurate \u2013 and added that One Nation would push for a \u201cbig clean-out\u201d if it won government or held the balance of power.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf One Nation does get government or is in a position to have that shared balance of power in either house, yes, we\u2019re going to push for it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Ms Hanson also ruled out entering a formal Coalition agreement with the Liberals and Nationals, who are currently lagging behind One Nation in the polls.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have no intentions of forming any coalition with them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am not going to come under that umbrella. I want to remain totally independent.\u201d<\/p>\n
On immigration, Senator Hanson said she wanted Australia to withdraw from the 1951 UN Refugee Convention, describing it as \u201cout of date\u201d.<\/p>\n
She said Australia needed to reclaim control over its borders and decide who entered the country without being bound by international agreements.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m sorry, I don\u2019t care about those people,\u201d she said of asylum seekers, some of whom she claimed were destroying identification documents before seeking refugee status.<\/p>\n
