{"id":92910,"date":"2025-07-26T02:07:13","date_gmt":"2025-07-26T02:07:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/92910\/"},"modified":"2025-07-26T02:07:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-26T02:07:13","slug":"childrens-book-honors-slain-iowa-teen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/92910\/","title":{"rendered":"Children&#8217;s book honors slain Iowa teen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The book begins with a girl on her swing and ends with her jumping off of it and flying up above.<\/p>\n<p>FARNHAMVILLE, Iowa \u2014 The tragic tale of a murdered Farnhamville girl is the inspiration behind a new children\u2019s book by a first-time author from Eagle Grove.<\/p>\n<p>In September of 2024, 17-year-old Michele &#8220;Luna&#8221; Jackson was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.weareiowa.com\/article\/news\/crime\/farmhamville-missing-girl-body-found-investigation-suspect-charges-updates\/524-b685ab29-e282-4c4f-8fb5-7e820ea61644\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">brutally stabbed<\/a> in the Farnhamville City Park. Nathaniel Bevers-McGiveney was <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.weareiowa.com\/article\/news\/crime\/nathaniel-bevers-mcgivney-verdict-guilty-judge-farnhamville-murder-michele-luna-jackson\/524-fa201a2d-83c2-415e-9e5f-1b05d2502098\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">found guilty<\/a> of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse in connection with her death on July 9, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Heather Mack&#8217;s book, titled<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B0FHDWXLSM?ref=cm_sw_r_ffobk_apan_dp_RWP6JJBQ37P4B679XP1M_2&amp;ref_=cm_sw_r_ffobk_apan_dp_RWP6JJBQ37P4B679XP1M_2&amp;social_share=cm_sw_r_ffobk_apan_dp_RWP6JJBQ37P4B679XP1M_2&amp;bestFormat=true&amp;previewDohEventScheduleTesting=C&amp;csmig=1&amp;fbclid=IwY2xjawLw7sdleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETBaS1JKczUwY3p4a0xteGc5AR6tLvzVb_lcN_Yj7M0WOBjwpiT8yoNIX_PnsxLwN19ow6HGrAO-SdQfdPJQIg_aem_-TL3i3I2qXdZy8wkd9n5rA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">\u201cSwing, Luna, Swing,\u201d<\/a> has only been on Amazon for about a week now, but she has already sold 120 copies.<\/p>\n<p>Mack received the Jackson family\u2019s blessing to publish the book, and all proceeds are going back to the family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSwinging just brought her so much joy,\u201d Mack said. \u201cShe had a specific swing that she would sit on every night.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSwing, Luna, Swing\u201d begins at night in a park, the same setting where Jackson\u2019s life ended.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was heartbreaking to see what was happening in the community,\u201d Mack said. \u201cWhat can you do in that situation? There&#8217;s nothing that you can do to make it better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The book first began as a poem, a way for Mack to process what happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wrote it all in one sitting, and it was like, this is just what I needed to write,\u201d Mack said.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson never met Mack, but the teen spent countless hours with Mack&#8217;s mother, the director of the Farnhamville Public Library.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, writing the book and publishing the book was\u00a0really\u00a0meaningful because of how much she loved the library and loved reading,\u201d Mack said.<\/p>\n<p>The book concludes with Jackson jumping off her swing and flying high above the stars and the clouds.
