On Saturday, more than a hundred people protested in front of Houston City Hall and marched downtown over the death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.<\/p>\n
The 52-year-old man was shot by an ICE agent on Tuesday morning<\/a>, according to federal authorities.<\/p>\n At the demonstration, signs read “ICE out” and “Justice for Lorenzo.”<\/p>\n Federal authorities said Salgado Araujo was an undocumented Mexican national who was not in the country legally. Officials said he was shot by an ICE agent in Houston’s Magnolia Park.<\/p>\n His death has outraged people in the community, with many calling for a thorough independent investigation.<\/p>\n “I’m here to show my support for the family. It’s terrible, tragic that this happened to this father and left his family behind,” protester Anita Ceballos said. “Independent investigation, we need that. We want answers. We want answers. The family wants answers,” Ceballos said.<\/p>\n Salgado Araujo’s family said he was on his way to work after picking up his workers to go to work at a construction site when unmarked vehicles followed him.<\/p>\n Surveillance video shows the chase involving the unmarked vehicles, but what happens next is disputed.<\/p>\n DHS claims Salgado Araujo, who’d been living in the U.S. for 35 years, tried to evade arrest and allegedly tried to run over an agent.
