More than 20,000 local customers are without power after Thursday evening’s series of thunderstorms.<\/p>\n

Severe thunderstorm warnings<\/a> rumbled across eastern Ontario and western Quebec from about 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

When the storm was at its worst, it produced a tornado warning around Sharbot Lake,\u00a0gusts of wind up to 90 km\/h\u00a0and\u00a0lightning,\u00a0Environment Canada\u00a0told Radio-Canada.<\/p>\n

CBC News is checking and it’s not yet clear whether a tornado happened.<\/p>\n

As of 3 p.m. Friday around\u00a014,000 customers were without power<\/a> in eastern Ontario, according to Hydro One, and about\u00a09,000\u00a0addresses in the Outaouais were out<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Bancroft and La P\u00eache\u00a0areas have the most customers in the dark. It should take most of the day for power to be restored in Bancroft, according to Hydro One. Nearly half\u00a0of its customers don’t have power.<\/p>\n

Hydro Ottawa does not list a significant number of outages. There were more than 45,000 local customers without power mid Friday morning.<\/p>\n

Photos from\u00a0of Chelsea and Wakefield\u00a0north of Ottawa show trees that were partially uprooted or snapped and Hydro-Qu\u00e9bec\u00a0workers responding to fallen branches which hit power lines.<\/p>\n

In Gatineau, the Festival Parasol had to be cancelled Thursday night thanks to the weather.\u00a0Otherwise, Gatineau police said they only responded to minor incidents like fallen branches.<\/p>\n
