Jacquie Kessel is devastated by car vs. pedestrian crash that killed a woman crossing the street on El Camino del Norte near La Quebrada.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh my gosh, we lost someone here in our community. We may not know them, but how many times a day did we walk past each other?\u201d Kessel said. \u201cIt\u2019s heartbreaking. I hurt for her family.”<\/p>\n
Sheriff\u2019s investigators said the deadly incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Friday night, when\u00a0a 2025 Nissan Z crashed into the woman. \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was very fresh,\u201d Kessel said. \u201cOh my gosh, we lost someone here in our community. We may not have know them, but how many times a day did we walk past each other?\u201d<\/p>\n
Long-time resident Jacquie Kessel witnessed the aftermath.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was very fresh. It was very much no one knew what was happening. All you could see was a sea of red and blue and just a ton of vehicles, a ton of enforcement, ambulance, medic, all of it.\u201d Kessel said.<\/p>\n
El Camino Del Norte serves as a major artery connecting Escondido to the coast without having to take the interstate, though drivers treat the street like a freeway.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think that\u2019s where a lot of drivers get confused, they treat it like a racetrack instead,\u201d Kessel said.<\/p>\n
Although the road has a set-speed limit, drivers go very fast.<\/p>\n
\u201cRidiculously fast,\u201d Kessel said.<\/p>\n
Kessel said around sunset hour there\u2019s a lot of road glare when travelling Westbound.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very bright. You know we have that perfect angle with that hill up in the background and it just cuts at a perfect angle every time and it\u2019s blinding for a bit,\u201d Kessel said.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s why she said more enforcement is needed to remind drivers to lower their speed.<\/p>\n
\u201cTicket, ticket, ticket, ticket\u2026.let\u2019s do it. Because it\u2019s sad that we have to get to this point,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
