{"id":93021,"date":"2025-07-26T03:04:17","date_gmt":"2025-07-26T03:04:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/93021\/"},"modified":"2025-07-26T03:04:17","modified_gmt":"2025-07-26T03:04:17","slug":"maple-ridge-couple-dog-killed-in-neighbour-dispute-leaving-loved-ones-bewildered","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/93021\/","title":{"rendered":"Maple Ridge couple, dog, killed in neighbour dispute, leaving loved ones bewildered"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A beautiful landscape, a fern in a latte\u2019s foam, the view at the end of a hike \u2014 Bruce Richards loved sending his friend Darryl Lucas photos of his recent adventures.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Especially if he knew it would get under Lucas\u2019 skin a little.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe kept sending it because he knew it would, you know, get me going and that\u2019s our friendship,\u201d Lucas told Global News.<\/p>\n<p>Bruce, alongside his wife Roxanne and their dog, was <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/11302204\/3-people-dead-maple-ridge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">killed inside their Maple Ridge home on Wednesday night<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tBruce and Roxanne\u2019s dog was also killed.\t\t\t\t <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tProvided to Global News\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tBruce and Roxanne Richards were retired and loved to travel.\t\t\t\t <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tProvided to Global News\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Lucas first met Bruce in the \u201980s when they played rugby together at Simon Fraser University. They truly were. And it\u2019s just so senseless and so tragic and I feel so bad for their boys and their extended families on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Lucas said they were a fun and loving couple and didn\u2019t have a mean bone in their body.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect in their deaths, who has not been named, is believed to have died from a self-inflicted injury.<\/p>\n<p>Neighbours told Global News that there was ongoing tension between the victims and the suspect, possibly over parking, however police have not yet confirmed a motive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just remember one time I asked, \u2018How you doing?\u201d Lucas said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Bruce just rolled his eyes one time and said, \u2018Oh, my neighbour\u2019. continue\n\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>RCMP said that officers were called to reports of a neighbourhood dispute on 239th Street and 118A Avenue earlier on Wednesday, at approximately 6:40 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>Police officers from the Ridge Meadows RCMP spoke with several people but no arrests were made, police confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Then, at approximately 10:51 p.m., the Maple Ridge Fire Department reported to police that a vehicle was on fire and a break-and-enter was in progress at a home in the same location.<\/p>\n<p>Callers to 911 also reported that shots had been fired at that home.<\/p>\n<p>When Ridge Meadows RCMP arrived back on the scene, police said they found two vehicles and the attached garage on fire, along with two people and a dog dead inside that home.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect was believed to be armed with a weapon inside a neighbouring home and police set up a containment zone, RCMP said.<\/p>\n<p>The Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team was called in and eventually gained entry to the second home where another person was reportedly found dead, police said.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tBruce and Roxanne Richards.\t\t\t\t <\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tProvided to Global News\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has now taken over the case.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProbably so many people out there have had disputes with their neighbours and it doesn\u2019t get to this,\u201d Lucas said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo it\u2019s just, and then in this case it did, it got right to this level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rick, whose last name is not revealed due to security concerns, lives next door to the Richards.<\/p>\n<p>He said they had lived there since the neighbourhood was built \u2014 about 25 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve been just great neighbours, great people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that his neighbours had called a bylaw officer previously over what sounded like a parking dispute but he said he didn\u2019t know the extent of any conflict between the suspect and victims.<\/p>\n<p>Lucas said that right now, everyone is just looking for answers about what happened and why.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just a sense of bewilderment and then when it hits
