\n\tDavid Letterman<\/a> has finally given his opinion on the cancelation of The Late Show<\/a> \u2013 the franchise that he launched.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t think it was money,\u201d Letterman says on a video on the Letterman YouTube channel hosted by Barbara Gaines, who was previously an exec producer on The Late Show with David Letterman. \u201cThis is pure cowardice.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tJoking that the \u201cEllison twins\u201d were buying Paramount \u2013 \u201cthey should go buy Dairy Queen or something and stay out of this business\u201d \u2013 and that the Skydance boss didn\u2019t want to be \u201chassled by the U.S. government\u201d.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s all very strange. It was a bit of a surprise,\u201d he opened the video.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c10 years ago, I quit and left. Then Stephen Colbert<\/a> comes along, and pretty quickly established himself as a precise, crisp, witty political satirist, and often his target has been the current administration. Based on that and just the overall entertainment quota of the show, drew a great audience and people became not addicted to but always looking forward to political satire from Stephen Colbert, he was very good at it. For 10 years, I think became the face of the network,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tLetterman posited that CBS<\/a> canceled the show because the new owners \u201cdon\u2019t want any trouble from that guy\u201d.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIf they were losing this kind of money, you\u2019re telling me losing this kind of money happened yesterday. Yeah right,\u201d he said. \u201cI bet they were losing this kind of money six weeks ago, or they have never been losing money.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCBS said its decision to cancel the show and the franchise was \u201cpurely financial\u201d.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added that he didn\u2019t think CBS did the \u201ccorrect thing\u201d and did not \u201chandle Stephen Colbert\u2026 in the way he deserves to have been handled\u201d.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhat the fuck is Skydance, honest to Christ? Is it a discount airline? Is that what it is? I think one day, if not today, the people at CBS, who have manipulated and handled this are going to be embarrassed because this is this is gutless. I only wish this could happen to me,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\n\tLetterman did admit that he always enjoyed a good fight with management. \u201cFighting with network television management was number one in the playbook,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
