{"id":93150,"date":"2025-07-26T04:14:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-26T04:14:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/93150\/"},"modified":"2025-07-26T04:14:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-26T04:14:12","slug":"sloppy-yankees-cant-get-out-of-their-own-way-again-in-loss-to-phillies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/93150\/","title":{"rendered":"Sloppy Yankees can&#8217;t get out of their own way again in loss to Phillies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Yankees pulled off a significant trade they believe will fortify their everyday lineup, but they could not get back on the winning track <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/25\/sports\/yankees-acquire-ryan-mcmahon-from-rockies-to-fill-glaring-third-base-hole\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">before new third baseman Ryan McMahon arrives<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The sloppy Yankees committed two more errors, including one during the go-ahead rally by the Phillies, and the bullpen coughed up 10 runs over the final three innings in another eyesore loss, 12-5, Friday night at the Stadium to fall 5 \u00b9\/\u2082 games behind the Blue Jays in the AL East.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe easy thing is just to play better. JASON SZENES\/ NY POST<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees led 3-2 entering the seventh following Giancarlo Stanton\u2019s solo homer the previous inning, but Goldschmidt fielded a ball to his right and made an errant throw home for an error on an infield single by Nick Castellanos. The miscue allowed the batter to advance into scoring position after Trea Turner had scored the tying run on the play.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooking back, I should\u2019ve just made the play and went to first base there,\u201d Goldschmidt said. \u201cProbably too aggressive by me to try to make a play when they were going to be safe anyway. It was a mistake by me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Luke Weaver replaced lefty Tim Hill and was tagged for a three-run homer to left by J.T. Robert Sabo for NY Post<\/p>\n<p>The Yankees recouped two runs in the bottom half on a leadoff homer by Anthony Volpe and a sacrifice fly by Aaron Judge for a one-run game.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But Kyle Schwarber crushed his second two-run blast of the night \u2014 this one against reliever Ian Hamilton \u2014 to boost the cushion back to three.
