Chef Ronnie Killen is bringing back original favorites including chicken-fried steak, 24-hour fried chicken, pork chops, oxtails and the Cafeteria Burger alongside barbecue by the pound and classic Southern sides.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Brennan\u2019s of Houston<\/strong><\/a>, 3300 Smith, celebrates Bastille Day with a French happy hour (2 to 6 p.m.); French wine tasting ($38, 6 to 7 p.m.) featuring three Loire Valley wines paired with small plates; and three-course French dinner ($70, 5 to 8 p.m.), with an optional $30 wine pairing.<\/p>\n

Downtown\u2019s newest French-inspired caf\u00e9, bakery and garden bar, Petite Lucie<\/strong><\/a>, 301 Milam, will officially host its grand opening with a Bastille Day fete, featuring entertainment, special food and drink offerings and other festive activities throughout the day.<\/p>\n

Etoile Cuisine et Bar<\/strong><\/a>, 1101 Uptown Park, offers a four-course prix-fixe menu ($78 or a la carte) featuring French-inspired dishes from Maine lobster and seared sea bass to veal medallions and almond and black cherry cake, with optional wine pairings available for an additional $40.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Through Saturday, July 19, guests can enjoy a French-inspired toast at Le Jardinier<\/strong><\/a>, 5500 Main, as the Michelin-starred restaurant pours its limited-time Joie de Vivre cocktail, made with apricot-infused brandy, lemon juice and a delicate Brie foam for $21.<\/p>\n

As hurricane season begins, the Houston Food Bank<\/a> is seeking volunteers to help assemble disaster relief boxes stocked with shelf-stable food, water and cleaning supplies for future emergency response efforts. Volunteer shifts are available at the Houston Food Bank, 535 Portwall, Monday through Sunday, with morning, afternoon and select evening opportunities. Individuals, families and groups are welcome, and volunteers can also bring donations of nonperishable food items, particularly pull-tab canned goods, during their shift.
