PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A wall of dust moved through the Valley Sunday night, causing power outages, traffic delays, and flight groundings at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. <\/p>\n
Residents in the West Valley and Phoenix metro area were engulfed by a large orange dust plume that led to low visibility and created dangerous driving conditions.<\/p>\n
The Avondale and Goodyear areas were under a Dust Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Phoenix on Sunday. Other areas included I-10, I-17 and US-60 near Phoenix and Mesa. <\/p>\n
The dust storm also grounded flights at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport due to the poor visibility. More than 80 flights were either delayed, canceled, or diverted<\/a> at the Phoenix airport. <\/p>\n Winds were blowing up to 40 miles per hour, according to the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n After the storm moved through, thousands of Salt River Project customers in the Avondale area and near San Tan Valley lost power<\/a> Sunday night.<\/p>\n AZ Family\u2019s weather forecast <\/a>shows an active week of monsoon thunderstorms in the Valley and across the state. <\/p>\n Dust storms are among the most dangerous hazards of a monsoon. <\/p>\n The National Weather Service cautions against driving in a dust storm,<\/a> as they can limit visibility to near zero.
